I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the premiere of the Netflix Original film Maa Behen, starring Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri. I really liked Maa Behen (and I previewed it for What’s on Netflix). Netflix also added the Tamil film 29. Make sure you didn’t miss any of the Indian movies and series added to Netflix in May with my monthly What’s on Netflix roundup.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two new business-themed Hindi series: The Pyramid Scheme and Made in India: A Titan Story, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Jim Sarbh. The streamer also added the Hindi version of the 2026 film Dacoit (the Telugu version was already available).

Karisma Kapoor’s new thriller series Brown debuted on Zee5.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with some non-exclusive series.

Streaming Video News: June 5, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s streaming premiere of the Hindi romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, just two weeks after it debuted in theaters. Two days ago, Prime premiered the Hindi kidnapping drama Stolen. I think it’s terrific.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the new Telugu series Devika & Danny. The other day, I finished my audit of the Hulu page. If you’ve noticed a bunch of titles removed, that’s why.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the streaming debut of Sunny Deol’s action flick Jaat. I also updated the list with a massive collection of Hindi films from Viacom 18 studios that are set to expire from Netflix on July 1. They’ve expired and returned before, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll be back on Netflix any time soon (or at all). I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s streaming debut of the Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff action flick Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. If you missed any of the new Indian releases on Netflix last month, check out my May roundup for What’s on Netflix.

Opening June 5: Bharat

Salman Khan’s annual Eid release for 2019 is Bharat. The history-spanning drama — based on the Korean film Ode to My Father — hits Chicago theaters on June 5 and co-stars Katrina Kaif.

Bharat opens on Wednesday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Century 12 Evanston in Evanston, Regal Round Lake Beach in Round Lake Beach, AMC Niles 12 in Niles, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, AMC Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, Regal Cantera in Warrenville, AMC Naperville 16 in Naperville, AMC Woodridge 18 in Woodridge, and AMC Crestwood 18 in Crestwood. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 30 min.

Also new on Wednesday are the Urdu films Wrong No. 2 — opening at MovieMax, South Barrington 24, and Cantera — and Chhalawa, which opens at the South Barrington 24 on Wednesday and Cantera on Thursday.

De De Pyaar De gets a fourth week at the South Barrington 24 and MovieMax, which also holds over India’s Most Wanted.

Opening June 5: Dil Dhadakne Do

One new Bollywood film hits Chicago area theaters on June 5, 2015, and it’s a big one: Dil Dhadakne Do (“Let the Heart Beat“). Zoya Akhtar directs an ensemble cast that includes Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, and Shefali Shah as a dysfunctional family on a cruise ship that also carries Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar.

DDD opens on Friday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, Regal Round Lake Beach Stadium 18 in Round Lake Beach, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge, and AMC Loews Crestwood 18 in Crestwood. Ticket demand is expected to be so high that the South Barrington 30 and Cantera 17 are showing DDD on multiple screens. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 50 min.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns gets a third week at all of the above theaters, except for the Crestwood 18. Piku gets a fifth week at the South Barrington 30, Cantera 17, and MovieMax, which also holds over Welcome 2 Karachi for a second week.

The English-Hindi film Unfreedom — touted for being banned in India — also opens on June 5 at the Goodrich Randall 15 in Batavia. It has a runtime of 1 hr. 42 min. It is my least favorite film of 2015. Click here for a national theater list.

Another release of note this weekend is the restored version of director Satyajit Ray’s The Apu Trilogy. The three Bengali classics start their run on Friday at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Click here for a national theater list.

Other Indian movies showing in the Chicago area this weekend include Masss (Tamil w/English subtitles) and Pandaga Chesko (Telugu) at the Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodridge and MovieMax, which also carries Nee-na (Malayalam) and the Telugu movies Andhra Pori, Asura, and Rakshasudu.
