Streaming Video News: September 13, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than two dozen Indian films added in the last week, including the following 2019 releases:

In other big Amazon Prime news, looks like we have confirmation that the Yash Raj Films catalog really is leaving Prime, with a handful of movies departing in the next two weeks. Kabhi Kabhie, Salaam Namaste, and Vijay all expire on September 25, followed by Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year on September 27. I’ll post expiration dates as they appear. In the meantime, if you’d like to prioritize watching YRF movies on Prime before they migrate to their new home (probably Hotstar), here’s a Wikipedia list of YRF releases.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because a bunch of Indian movies are set to expire on September 15:

Kabir Singh comes to Netflix in India on September 19, but I haven’t seen confirmation of its US availability yet, so stay tuned. In other Netflix news, Karan Johar signed a multi-year contract to produce fiction and non-fiction content exclusively for the streaming service.

Streaming Video News: September 6, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the excellent 2019 thriller Article 15. Based on my experience, it’s a good movie to recommend to people who don’t normally watch Hindi films. Other recent additions include the 2019 Tamil release Watchman and the 2018 Telugu movies C/o Kancharapalem and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with almost two dozen Indian and Pakistani films added in the last week, including these 2019 releases:

In other streaming video news, Super 30 comes to Hotstar on September 10.

Streaming Video News: August 26, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of additions in the last week, including Sholay. Also new is the Telugu-dubbed version of 2000’s Kandukondain Kandukondain, a Tamil retelling of Sense and Sensibility starring Tabu and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The most notable recent release is the Tiger Shroff-Ananya Panday flick Student of the Year 2, which is actually pretty good. Other newly added 2019 films include:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because Taapsee Pannu’s 2019 thriller Game Over is available for streaming in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Other new additions include the 2019 Marathi release Saavat and the Punjabi movies Kaake Da Viyah and Marriage Palace.

Seven Hindi and Malayalam titles are set to expire from Netflix on September 1:

In other Netflix news, Article 15 debuted on Netflix in India on August 24, but it won’t be available for streaming in the United States until September 6.

Streaming Video News: August 19, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last five days, including a bunch of 2019 releases:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the 2019 releases 90ml (Tamil) and Uyare (Malayalam).

There are three 2019 releases of note likely to make their streaming debuts this week, according to Bollywood Buff. Taapsee Pannu’s thriller Game Over — which released theatrically in the United States in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi — comes to Netflix on August 21, followed by Article 15 on August 24. Student of the Year 2 is slated to join Amazon Prime on August 26 in India, which — because of the time difference — would see it become available in the US on Sunday, August 25 in the afternoon.

Streaming Video News: August 14, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because Season 2 of Sacred Games is now available for streaming. Also new is the Hindi romantic drama Jaoon Kahan Bata Ae Dil, which goes by the colorful English title Lovefucked.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with about thirty Indian titles added in the last five days, including the following 2019 releases:

Streaming Video News: August 9, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with fifteen Indian films added in the last two days, including the following 2019 releases:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because Akshay Kumar’s Airlift is set to expire on August 15.

Streaming Video News: August 7, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because director Sujoy Ghosh’s March, 2019 film Badla is now available for streaming. I didn’t like it as much as his earlier mystery Kahaani (also on Netflix), but it’s entertaining enough. If you’d like to play the Split Screen Podcast at-home game, you can watch The Invisible Guest — the Spanish movie on which Badla is based — on Netflix as well.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of Indian films added in the last several days, including the 2019 releases 1st Rank Raju (Telugu), Gho Gho Rani (Hindi), and Raatchasi (Tamil). In case you missed my last Streaming Video News post, Salman Khan’s Bharat is now available for streaming, too.

To give you a sense of just how big Amazon’s Indian catalog is, I recently removed about 80 expired links from my list, and it only reduced the count to 2,428 movies. If you wanted to watch a different Indian movie on Prime every day, it would take you six-and-a-half years to see all of them — and that’s only if Amazon didn’t add any new films!

Streaming Video News: July 15, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix today with the addition of the 2018 Marathi film Bogda.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with fifteen Indian titles added in the last three days, including the following 2019 releases:

Streaming Video News: July 12, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian movies added in the last week. Amazon India is wrapping up its Prime Day promotions, with last of its big 2019 releases — the Marathi film Mogra Phulaalaa — due to join the streaming service on July 14. I’m surprised that Student of the Year 2 wasn’t ultimately part of the promotions, but it’ll make its way to Prime eventually. Besides the previously announced 2019 releases, several more were added to Prime in the last week:

Other recent notable additions include the classic comedy 3 Idiots, the lovely Bengali-English-Japanese film The Japanese Wife, and the hilarious documentary Meet the Patels, which became available on Prime the same day it expired from Netflix.
