Streaming Video News: April 3, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than a dozen Indian titles added in the last two days, including the new Hindi series Panchayat, which looks kinda good. Newly added 2020 releases include:

Netflix released the trailer for its new dark comedy series Hasmukh, which stars Vir Das as a comic who resorts to murder to overcome his stage fright. Hasmukh debuts on Netflix April 17. It’s worth watching the trailer below just to see Manoj Pahwa’s ridiculous wig.

Streaming Video News: April 1, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with loads of newly added Indian content. In addition to the Hindi film Paharganj, the 2020 Tamil releases Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal and Sethum Aayiram Pon are now available for streaming. A bunch of animated kids movies and series in Hindi were also added: Akbar Birbal, Bal Ganesh, Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan, Mighty Raju Rio Calling, and Punyakoti (Sanskrit). But the big news is the new batch of movies from the Dharma Productions catalog that are now available for streaming:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the debuts of two Netflix Originals: the stand-up comedy series Ladies Up and the cute-looking Hindi film Maska, starring Manisha Koirala. A bunch of shows and movies are heading to Netflix in the next several days, while almost a dozen titles are set to expire in the same time frame. Streaming Video News: March 16, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the Hindi films Jai Mummy Di (2020) and Bypass Road (2019).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than a dozen Indian films added in the last few days, including the following 2020 releases:

Some upcoming Hindi films have postponed their theatrical releases due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and more are sure to follow suit. Obviously, that’s going to affect the rate at which new releases become available on streaming services. According to Bollywood Buff, the two most recent Hindi theatrical releases — Baaghi 3 and Angrezi Medium — will become available online in May. After that, who knows? Some smaller releases may choose to head straight to streaming, especially a film like Lootcase that had considered doing so in the past. Others may choose to release simultaneously in theaters and online for rent, as Universal is doing. We’ll have to wait an see. In the meantime, keep on top of release date news on my Upcoming Bollywood Release page.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last week, including the 2020 releases Choricha Mamla (Marathi), Luv Ni Love Storys (Gujarati), and Sarileru Neekevvaru (Telugu, also in 4K UHD).

Streaming Video News: February 24, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of Indian titles added in the last few days, including today’s addition of the Mammootty’s 2020 release Shylock. The other big new addition is Rajinikanth’s 2020 release Darbar, available in Tamil (also 4K UHD) and Telugu (also 4K UHD).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a March 1 expiration date for more than three dozen Indian titles, most of them Hindi films. The TV series India: Nature’s Wonderland and Mahi Way are on the way out, as are the Kannada movie The Plan and the Tamil film Revelations. I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian titles added in the last week, including today’s addition of the comedy Good Newwz, starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani. Good Newwz was 2019’s second highest earning Bollywood film in the United States, and the only other Hindi movie besides Gully Boy to earn more than $5 million here last year. Two 2020 Telugu releases were added to Prime this week as well: 3 Monkeys and Degree College.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the Emraan Hashmi-Rishi Kapoor thriller The Body and the Netflix Original Hindi dance film Yeh Ballet. Another Netflix Original movie on the way is Guilty, starring Kiara Advani as the truth-seeking girlfriend of a popular college student accused of rape. Guilty debuts on Netflix March 6.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian titles added in the last week, including the Amazon Original black comedy series Afsos, starring Gulshan Devaiah. It launched in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Also new is Rani Mukerji’s cop thriller Mardaani 2, available in both standard and 4K UHD. Other recently added 2019 releases include:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the 2019 Tamil film Jada. The Malayalam movie Thottappan debuts on February 8, followed by the Netflix Original romance series Taj Mahal 1989 on February 14.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of Indian content added in the last week, including the debut of the Amazon Original Hindi series The Forgotten Army: Azaadi Ke Liye (also available in 4K UHD). Recently added 2019 releases include:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the 2019 Tamil road trip film K.D. (A) Karuppudurai. There are a few new releases lined up before the end of the month, including the stand-up special Vir Das for India on January 26. The Rajkummar Rao-Hema Malini romantic comedy Shimla Mirchi debuts on January 27, following a really brief theatrical run in India earlier this month. On January 30, we finally get Karan Johar’s makeover reality dating show What the Love!, which will either be great or disastrous. Celebrity guests include Huma Qureshi, Saif Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, and Sunny Leone.
