Hi, really nice list of movies! Sad, we don’t have ‘Oye lucky lucky oye’, ‘Laaga chunri mein..’, Wake up Sid, RocketSingh anymore. Can we have them back on NetflixUS??

This list is really useful and handy… Btw, I see that you haven’t reviewed Johnny Gaddar yet… You should definitely catch up on that one.. Nice thriller with less of the bollywood stereotypes..

Thanks for the compliment, Ronak! I liked Johnny Gaddar when I first saw it, so maybe it’s time for a re-view and a review.

Help!!!! I saw this movie about 4 years ago on netflix about a boy growing up without his mother ( she died while giving birth to him) and he thinks that’s the reason his father (a well off person) hates him. His aunt comes to the house and becomes his stepmother, forced by his father!… later on in the movie the father brings a mistress to the house and she stays in the guest house and she makes him (the boy) give her massages….. his father walks in on the lovemaking and gets a stroke. At the end he finds out why his father hates him and he has become a worse man than the one he hated all his life.

You’ve stumped me, Iggy. Maybe someone else who reads the comments can identify this one. Was it a relatively new Bollywood film or an older one? Did it star any recognizable actors?

The problem is I’ve watched the good stuff plenty of times and even watched the bad stuff. It’s so disappointing to see barely anything exciting or new getting added in the beginning of the month.

Yeah, there’s not much turnover at Netflix. At the top of this page, the “Newly Added” section is everything that’s been added in the last month. I only leave the “Recently Expired” films up for a week. It would be really nice if Netflix prioritized getting newer films. Hawaizaada is the only 2015 release available. I’m also disappointed that they haven’t gotten recent Yash Raj Films releases like Detective Byomkesh Bakshy or Dum Laga Ke Haisha yet.

I’m not an Indian by culture but I’ve a lot of Indian friends and they inspired me to watch Hindi movies. The emotions they portray in movies is what’s best about the Bollywood industry. Thank god, there’s Netflix where I can watch a handful of Hindi movies without needing to spend a lot.

I’ve never thought netflix is for me. I do watch a handful of movies, especially what’s on TV.

Do you think it’s worth getting netflix for bollywood movies? Btw I’m in the UK.

    Reply
    1. Kathy Post author

Hi, Ali. My advice is to browse the Netflix UK catalog, and if there is more than one movie that you’d like to watch, subscribe for one month just to try it. You can always cancel at the end of the month if you don’t like the service or movie selection. That’s how I use Eros Now — I don’t maintain a constant subscription, but sign up for a month at a time when they add movies I haven’t seen. The nice thing about most streaming services is that a month’s subscription is about the same price as a trip to the theater, so it’s not a huge investment. If you do sign up for Netflix, please report back and let me know what you think of it. 🙂

The movies have English subtitles automatically, Maggie (at least in the USA). A few titles have additional subtitle options like French and Arabic. You can click on each title at Netflix’s website for more detailed language and subtitle information.

He access Bollywood, why is Netflix getting rid of the best, blockbuster Bollywood movie and adding the low budget flop movies that are barely watched and are not popular?

    Reply
    1. Kathy Post author

Well, Nara Michael, part of it is surely money (of course, LOL). It’s cheaper to get the rights to indie and lower budget movies. Netflix may also be trying to steer its subscribers to more art house and indie fare, as with the acquisition of Brahman Naman, which was a big hit at the Sundance Film Festival. (Brahman Naman debuts on Netflix on July 7, btw, and it’s hilarious.) Since Netflix doesn’t release viewership figures, perhaps blockbuster Bollywood movies aren’t popular in the overall scheme of things — or maybe just not popular enough to justify their costs. I wish I knew. The more Hindi movies on Netflix, the better, I say!

It’s frustrating, isn’t it? Netflix signs contracts to show movies for a certain length of time — usually for a few years, but sometimes as short as a year. Netflix only gives one week’s notice before they disappear, so it’s hard to plan ahead.

You should list the new movies in some order. I really only watch movies in hindi and english. It would be nice to know from the beginning what language it is in.

Thanks for the suggestion, Raj. Netflix only started adding a lot of non-Hindi Indian films in the last month or two, so this wasn’t an issue until recently.

I watched The Most Beautiful Hands in Delhi which isn’t a movie but a 3 part series – in Swedish, English, Hindi. The first episode fools you into thinking it will be a quiet comedy but eps 2 & 3 show a more serious side. I enjoyed it.

Hi, Jaya. Netflix makes movie deals with each country individually. For example, there are some movies that are available in Canada, but not in the US, and vice versa.
