Streaming Video News: July 30, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films that have been added in the last few days, including today’s worldwide debut of the biopic Shakuntala Devi (also in 4K UHD), starring Vidya Balan. Other recently added 2020 releases include the Punjabi film Jaan To Pyara and the Malayalam movie Velikku Veluppankalam.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with yesterday’s release of the 2020 Telugu film Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya. The Netflix Original crime drama Raat Akeli Hai — starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte — debuts tomorrow.

Most of the movies in this list I posted earlier this week have been renewed and are not expiring from Netflix as planned. However, there are still seven Indian titles expiring from Netflix on August 1, with Chennai Express (which has good dance numbers) following on August 7. Scroll down to the “Expiring Soon” section of my Netflix page to see what’s on the way out.

Also releasing globally tomorrow on Hotstar is the Hindi comedy Lootcase, starring Kunal Khemu. You’ll need a subscription to watch it, but Dil Bechara is still available for free if you haven’t caught it yet.

Streaming Video News: June 26, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the new Netflix Original film Bulbbul, from Anushka Sharma’s production company Clean Slate Films. It’s really good, and I hope to have my review up soon. Other new additions this week include the 2020 Telugu movie Krishna and His Leela and the older Hindi releases Vivah and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (which is okay). Netflix also made changes to two films already on the service: Seven and Thackeray. Instead of one entry with a drop-down menu that allowed you to choose the language, Netflix made individual entries for each language version of the movie. Seven is available in Tamil and Telugu, and Thackeray is available in Hindi and Marathi.

Be sure to check out the Expiring Soon section of my Netflix page, as a bunch of movies and series are set to leave Netflix on July 1.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian and Pakistani titles added in the last week. Out of nowhere, Prime added the brand new Hindi series Rasbhari (also in 4K UHD), starring Swara Bhaskar. Recently added 2020 releases include Cheema Prema Madhyalo Bhama (Telugu), Janaki Nayakan (Malayalam), and Prawaas (Marathi). Amazon also moved the digital premiere of the Kannada film Law to July 17.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Manoj Bajpayee announced a May 1 premiere date for their Netflix Original film Mrs. Serial Killer.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a dozen Indian films added in the last several days, including the 2020 Kannada release Sri Bharatha Baahubali.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of newly added Indian titles, including Mohanlal’s 2020 Malayalam release Big Brother (also in 4K UHD) and the Malayalam version of Rajinikanth’s Darbar (standard and 4K UHD). Bipasha Basu’s 2015 horror flick Alone is also now available for streaming. I really liked it.

Streaming Video News: November 27, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian titles added in the last week, including today’s blockbuster addition of the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff action extravaganza War, one of my favorite movies of the year. War is now available for streaming in Hindi (standard and 4K UHD) and Telugu (standard and 4K UHD). The Hindi version of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is available as well, also in standard and 4K UHD. Other 2019 releases added in the last week include:

It looks like the Excel Entertainment back catalog really is leaving Prime for good on Thursday, November 28. To see a list of all the titles on their way out, scroll past the “Newly Added” section at the top of my Amazon Prime page to find the “Expiring Soon” section, or click here. Bon voyage, Dil Dhadakne Do. [Disclaimer: my Amazon links include an affiliate tag that may earn me a commission on purchases.]

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of two 2019 releases: the Rajeev Khandelwal-starrer Pranaam and the Telugu film Evvarikee Cheppoddu. Twenty Marathi titles are set to expire from Netflix on December 1, as are Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana and the excellent drama Masaan. (Half Girlfriend is leaving as well, but you don’t want to watch it.) The expiring titles will be replaced on December 1 by seven Punjabi titles, which you can find listed in the “Coming Soon” section near the top of my Netflix page.

Happy Thanksgiving! — Kathy

Streaming Video News: November 20, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which is available in the following languages: Kannada/4K UHD, Malayalam/4K UHD, Tamil/4K UHD, and Telugu/4K UHD. The Hindi version should become available next week. Other recently added 2019 releases include Doorbeen (Punjabi), Mafi Dona (Malayalam), and the Hindi-dubbed version of the Malayalam movie Mikhael. In other Amazon Prime news, most of the Excel Entertainment back catalog is set to expire by the end of this month. Unlike the recent departures of movies from Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions, I’m not sure that this exodus is permanent. Excel has new seasons of Inside Edge and Mirzapur coming to Amazon in the next few months, and I haven’t found any news stories about them striking a deal with another streamer. Still, if you have any of their titles in your Watchlist, you might want to watch them in the next week. Excel’s fantastic debut production, Dil Chahta Hai, expires on November 27, followed by these other titles on November 28:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the 2019 Telugu releases Dorasaani and Mallesham and the documentary Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator.

Streaming Video News: November 15, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last week. Notable additions in the last day include Sanjay Dutt’s September theatrical release Prassthanam and the Amazon original series One Mic Stand, in which celebrities like Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chadha are coached in the art of standup comedy. Other recently added 2019 releases include:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the Telugu film Guna 369, the Naseeruddin Shah-narrated nature documentary SunGanges, and the Netflix original comedy House Arrest, starring Ali Fazal and Jim Sarbh.

Streaming Video News: September 27, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with four 2019 titles added in the last week, including the new Netflix original series Bard of Blood, starring Emraan Hashmi. Also new are the Hindi film Malaal, the Telugu sequel Manmadhudu 2, and the Malayalam and Tamil versions of Oh! Baby (the Telugu version was added last week).

Sixteen Indian movies are set to expire from Netflix on October 1 — mostly Malayalam titles, but the service’s lone Manipuri film, Loktak Lairembee, is on its way out as well. The full list of expiring titles is available here.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than forty Indian titles added since my last streaming video update. One of those new films is Sonakshi Sinha’s August comedy Khadaani Shafakhana, which contains homophobic slurs. Other recently added 2019 releases include:

The Yash Raj Films exodus from Prime is underway, with ten titles leaving on September 29 and dozens more following on September 30. Click here, then scroll down to the “Expiring Soon” section for the full list of movies on the way out.

Streaming Video News: September 16, 2019

It’s last call for movies from the Yash Raj Films catalog at Amazon Prime. YRF is taking its library to Hotstar, and Prime has started posting expiration dates for the 60+ films on the way out. Most titles — including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge — will be gone in the next two weeks. The most recent releases will be the last to go, with no departure dates announced for films like Thugs of Hindostan and Sui Dhaaga: Made In India. I’ll update this post when their dates are announced. Here are the expiration dates we know so far:

September 25

September 27

September 29

September 30

I added eleven Indian titles to my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime over the weekend, including gems like Hisss and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the 2019 Telugu comedy Oh! Baby, a remake of the Korean film Miss Granny.

Streaming Video News: September 6, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the excellent 2019 thriller Article 15. Based on my experience, it’s a good movie to recommend to people who don’t normally watch Hindi films. Other recent additions include the 2019 Tamil release Watchman and the 2018 Telugu movies C/o Kancharapalem and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with almost two dozen Indian and Pakistani films added in the last week, including these 2019 releases:

In other streaming video news, Super 30 comes to Hotstar on September 10.
