Streaming Video News: October 21, 2022

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with yesterday’s addition of the Tamil family film Senior Super Heroes. Look for the Telugu movie Krishna Vrinda Vihari to become available for streaming some time tomorrow afternoon. And just a reminder that tons of Hindi flicks are set to leave Netflix on November 1, so plan your weekend viewing accordingly.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with yesterday’s additions of the Marathi film Boyz 3 and a third season of Four More Shots Please!.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the addition of the 2012 flick Filmistaan, which I really enjoyed.

One note about Hulu is that it seems like they’re the streaming service with the most disparate regional restrictions on marquee content. With some regularity, stuff that they promote on their social media channels is ultimately available in India, but not in the United States. For example, Liger is now streaming in Hindi in India, but not here. [Update: Liger in Hindi was added to Hulu over the weekend. I guess the other lesson is: stuff isn’t added to Hulu as quickly as it’s added to Disney+Hotstar.]

Plenty of titles are available on Amazon Prime in India that aren’t free with Prime in the US, but they aren’t usually titles that are promoted in advance. All this is just to say that, while I try to be accurate in the “Coming Soon” section on each of my three streaming pages, don’t be surprised if some titles mentioned on the Hulu page never make their way to the USA.

Prime Video Presents India 2022 Event

Amazon Prime Video India held a big press event today to announce the slate of original and licensed Indian content they plan to release over the next two years. The company’s YouTube channel published a short video with footage from some of the featured titles:

Variety’s Naman Ramachandran posted descriptions for the entire slate of new series and movies in the works. His article also mentions all of the series set to return with new seasons, including Breathe: Into the Shadows, Comicstaan, The Family Man, Four More Shots Please!, Made in Heaven, Mirzapur, Mumbai Diaries, Paatal Lok, and Panchayat.

The presentation also included mention of three “special collaborations” and co-productions, which will presumably get theatrical releases before streaming on Prime. Those are Tiku Weds Shiru (starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur), Neeyat (Vidya Balan), and Ram Setu (Akshay Kumar).

On top of all that, Amazon went ahead and announced all of the titles that fall under their licensing associations with production houses Ajay Devgn Ffilms, Dharma Productions, Excel Entertainment, and Yash Raj Films for their forthcoming theatrical releases. Here are all the Hindi movies that will make their way onto Prime after their theatrical runs are over (by order of theatrical release date if known, then alphabetical):

  • Runway 34
  • Jayeshbhai Jordaar
  • Prithviraj
  • Govinda Naam Mera
  • Jug Jugg Jeeyo

Streaming Video News: April 17, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime because the February romantic comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is now available for streaming (also in 4K UHD). Also new is Season 2 of the Amazon Original series Four More Shots Please! (also in 4K UHD). Amazon Prime Video India made a Season 1 recap video, if you need a refresher.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the debut of the Netflix Original dark comedy series Hasmukh, starring Vir Das and Ranvir Shorey. Netflix also released the trailer for its Original film Mrs. Serial Killer, which premieres May 1.

Streaming Video News: February 8, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than 60 Indian films added in the last week. Today’s big new addition is the Telugu film NTR: Kathanayakudu, which released in theaters just last month! K.G.F: Chapter 1 was recently added to Prime in four languages (but not Hindi):

If you haven’t caught up with the Amazon original series Four More Shots Please! yet, Shah Shahid highly recommends it.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix at the beginning of the month with three “new” Indian titles: Manusangada (2017/Tamil), Truckbar Swapna (2018/Marathi), and Talvar, which is back after a two-month vacation. Note that Netflix lists Talvar by its international title, Guilty.
