Opening January 24: Panga and Street Dancer 3

Two new Hindi films open in Chicago area theaters the weekend beginning January 24, 2020. Bareilly Ki Barfi director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari returns with the kabbadi drama Panga, starring Kangana Ranaut, Jassi Gill, and Richa Chadda.

Panga opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, Regal Cantera in Warrenville, and AMC Naperville 16 in Naperville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 11 min. Its streaming partner is Hotstar.

Also new this weekend is Street Dancer 3 (as it’s being called here; in India it’s Street Dancer 3D). It was originally planned as a sequel to ABCD 2 before changing production houses. Thus, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor return for Street Dancer 3, but as different characters.

Malaal — a remake of the 2004 Tamil romantic comedy 7G Rainbow Colony — is the only new Hindi film releasing in the Chicago area on July 5, 2019. It stars newcomers Sharmin Segal and Meezaan Jaffrey and opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles.

Following its world premiere at the London Indian Film Festival, Ayushmann Khurrana’s crime thriller Article 15 opens in Chicago area theaters on June 28, 2019.

Article 15 opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hours.

After a very good opening weekend, Kabir Singh adds theaters in its second weekend of release. As of Friday, it will show in all three of the above theaters, plus the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, AMC Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, and AMC Naperville 16 in Naperville.

Bharat holds over for a fourth week at MovieMax, South Barrington 24, and AMC Woodridge 18 in Woodridge.

Salman Khan’s annual Eid release for 2019 is Bharat. The history-spanning drama — based on the Korean film Ode to My Father — hits Chicago theaters on June 5 and co-stars Katrina Kaif.

With Salman Khan’s Bharat releasing in the middle of next week, no new Hindi films open in the Chicago area on Friday, May 31, 2019. After a lousy first weekend in North America, India’s Most Wanted carries over at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera in Warrenville.

Last weekend’s other new release — PM Narendra Modi — sticks around at the South Barrington 24, which hangs on to Student of the Year 2 as well and gets Photograph on Friday.
