Streaming Video News: July 30, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films that have been added in the last few days, including today’s worldwide debut of the biopic Shakuntala Devi (also in 4K UHD), starring Vidya Balan. Other recently added 2020 releases include the Punjabi film Jaan To Pyara and the Malayalam movie Velikku Veluppankalam.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with yesterday’s release of the 2020 Telugu film Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya. The Netflix Original crime drama Raat Akeli Hai — starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte — debuts tomorrow.

Most of the movies in this list I posted earlier this week have been renewed and are not expiring from Netflix as planned. However, there are still seven Indian titles expiring from Netflix on August 1, with Chennai Express (which has good dance numbers) following on August 7. Scroll down to the “Expiring Soon” section of my Netflix page to see what’s on the way out.

Also releasing globally tomorrow on Hotstar is the Hindi comedy Lootcase, starring Kunal Khemu. You’ll need a subscription to watch it, but Dil Bechara is still available for free if you haven’t caught it yet.

In other streaming video news, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with two newly added Hindi films:  2016’s Project Marathwada and 2020’s Door Ke Darshan (which released theatrically in February as “Doordarshan” before a lawsuit forced it to change its title).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last week, including yesterday’s new release, the Kannada film French Biryani. A handful of popular Hindi titles also turned up on Prime recently, including:

Streaming Video News: July 6, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the Hindi sports drama Penalty, as well as the return of about two dozen Viacom 18 films that had expired from the service over the last several months. Here’s what’s back:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with about a dozen Indian titles added over the weekend, including the 2020 Punjabi film Jaga Jagravan Joga.

Today, Hotstar unveiled the trailer for Sushant Singh Rajput’s final film, Dil Bechara, which releases globally on the streaming service on July 24. This one’s gonna be tough:

Streaming Video News: July 1, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of Indian films added today, including the 2007 slapstick comedy Welcome (which I thought was funny). Four films starring or produced by Salman Khan — Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hero, Jai Ho, and Kick — have expired from the service.

Prime also released the trailer for the series Breathe: Into the Shadows, which debuts July 10.

The other big streaming news this week comes from Hotstar (or Disney+Hotstar, as it’s known in India). The service revealed seven major releases that will skip theaters and debut directly on Hotstar in the coming months. In addition to the previously announced July 24 digital release of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, the other titles include Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz, and Kunal Khemu’s Lootcase.

While no new Indian titles were added to Netflix today, you can catch up on anything you might have missed from June in my monthly recap for What’s On Netflix.
