I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s release of the Original Hindi horror film Kaali Khuhi. Netflix also launched the trailer for the Telugu movie Miss India, which debuts on November 3.

The following titles expire from Netflix on November 1:

I also updated my list of Bollywood titles on Amazon Prime with lots of Indian and Pakistani titles added this week, including the premiere of the new Kannada film Bheemasena Nalamaharaja.

In other streaming video news, pressure from Karni Sena forced the producers of Laxmmi Bomb to change the title of their forthcoming film to Laxmii. The Akshay Kumar horror-comedy releases on Hotstar on November 9.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s addition of the brand new Telugu movie V (available in Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil as well). The new Malayalam film C U Soon was added earlier this week. A Spanish-dubbed version of the Rajkummar Rao-Nargis Fakhri movie 5 Weddings is also now available on Prime.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the South African Desi comedy sequel Kandasamys: The Wedding. Netflix just released the trailer for Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, which will be available for streaming on September 18:

Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb was rumored to debut on Hotstar on September 9, but it’s undergoing re-shoots, so no release is imminent. Instead, Hotstar will launch a second season of its original series Hostages on September 9.

In other news, Yash Raj Films plans to launch its own streaming service. This could potentially lead to YRF titles being removed from Amazon Prime, which currently holds the streaming rights to the studio’s catalog. The news report is light on details, so we’ll have to wait and see how YRF justifies asking consumers to subscribe to yet another streaming service.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Streaming Video News: July 1, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of Indian films added today, including the 2007 slapstick comedy Welcome (which I thought was funny). Four films starring or produced by Salman Khan — Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hero, Jai Ho, and Kick — have expired from the service.

Prime also released the trailer for the series Breathe: Into the Shadows, which debuts July 10.

The other big streaming news this week comes from Hotstar (or Disney+Hotstar, as it’s known in India). The service revealed seven major releases that will skip theaters and debut directly on Hotstar in the coming months. In addition to the previously announced July 24 digital release of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, the other titles include Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz, and Kunal Khemu’s Lootcase.

While no new Indian titles were added to Netflix today, you can catch up on anything you might have missed from June in my monthly recap for What’s On Netflix.

Streaming Video News: May 1, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the 2020 Tamil film Psycho and the new Netflix Original Hindi flick Mrs. Serial Killer, starring Jacqueline Fernandez and Manoj Bajpayee. The 2019 Hindi movie One Day: Justice Delivered hits Netflix on May 3.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with five Indian titles added since yesterday.

Bollywood Buff put together a helpful post listing all of the yet-to-be released Hindi films that have already inked streaming video deals — a move that opens the door for them to release straight to streaming if they decide not to wait for theaters to reopen. Akshay Kumar is reportedly considering releasing Laxmmi Bomb — which was set to debut in theaters on May 22 — on Hotstar once post-production is finished, possibly in June.

According to Bollywood Buff, a number of movies have already ruled out a straight-to-digital release, including Sooryavanshi, 83, Radhe, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and Bunty Aur Babli 2. We’ll have to wait and see if all the other titles on the list are as resolute.
