Streaming Video News: April 9, 2021

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s debut of the new Hindi comedy Hello Charlie, starring Jackie Shroff and a gorilla. The Kannada film Yuvarathnaa landed on Prime yesterday, even though it’s still playing in theaters in the United States and India. Another film that recently ended its theatrical run — Jathi Ratnalu — joins Prime on April 11, followed by the Malayalam movie The Priest on April 14.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with yesterday’s surprise addition of the horror comedy Roohi, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. Earlier this week, Netflix added a second collection of episodes of the wedding reality series The Big Day and the 2021 Tamil film Mandela. New Indian titles coming to Netflix next week include a bunch of cartoons for kids on April 12, the Telugu movie Uppena on April 13, and the premiere of the Netflix Original Hindi film Ajeeb Daastaans on April 16.

Last but not least, yesterday Hotstar debuted Abhishek Bachchan’s semi-biographical stock market drama The Big Bull. With Hindi theatrical releases on hold for the time being, it’s nice to have a weekend with multiple new Bollywood movies to choose from!

Streaming Video News: February 26, 2021

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s world premiere of the thriller The Girl on the Train, based on the book by Paula Hawkins. The Hindi anthology film Zindagi in Short and the Telugu movie Red were also added to Netflix this week. A bunch of Indian titles are set to expire on March 1, so catch these while you can:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last week, including today’s addition of the 2021 Tamil neo-noir thriller Kabadadaari (also available in 4K UHD).

Hotstar launched a new drama series yesterday — 1962: The War in the Hills, starring Abhay Deol. If that doesn’t float your boat, Hotstar also recently released the horror series Live Telecast and the animated show The Legend of Hanuman. Still no sign of The Big Bull or Bhuj, unfortunately.

Streaming Video News: July 1, 2020

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of Indian films added today, including the 2007 slapstick comedy Welcome (which I thought was funny). Four films starring or produced by Salman Khan — Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hero, Jai Ho, and Kick — have expired from the service.

Prime also released the trailer for the series Breathe: Into the Shadows, which debuts July 10.

The other big streaming news this week comes from Hotstar (or Disney+Hotstar, as it’s known in India). The service revealed seven major releases that will skip theaters and debut directly on Hotstar in the coming months. In addition to the previously announced July 24 digital release of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, the other titles include Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz, and Kunal Khemu’s Lootcase.

While no new Indian titles were added to Netflix today, you can catch up on anything you might have missed from June in my monthly recap for What’s On Netflix.
