Streaming Video News: September 12, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the streaming debut of this year’s surprise box office hit Saiyaara.

I also update my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with yesterday’s premiere of the new Hindi series Do You Wanna Partner, starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty. Other big new additions this week include Rajnikanth’s Coolie and the Telugu films Paradha and Kannappa.

Amazon released a teaser for the chat show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, debuting September 25:

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the premiere of the new Telugu series Rambo in Love (also in Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil). Other recent additions include the Hindi-dubbed version Thammudu (the original Telugu version is on Netflix) and the Kannada movie Su From So (also in Malayalam and Telugu).

Streaming Video News: September 5, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the Original Hindi film Inspector Zende, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh. I enjoyed Inspector Zende, but if you’re not sure if this crime comedy is for you, check out my Inspector Zende preview for What’s on Netflix.

The latest Netflix expiration news is that all versions of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion are leaving on September 30. The combined Baahubali: The Epic hits theaters October 31, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that has something to do with the Netflix removal.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with yesterday’s streaming debut of Rajkummar Rao’s action film Maalik.

If that’s not enough to watch this weekend, the Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor romance Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is now streaming on ZEE5.

Streaming Video News: August 28, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the world premiere of the Hindi film Songs of Paradise, the story of Kashmir’s first female radio singer.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the streaming debut of Metro… In Dino. In a curious move, Netflix also added John Abraham’s Tehran to its catalog today — two weeks after its world premier on ZEE5. I didn’t care for Tehran, so now I can skip it on two services! The Telugu film Kingdom was added earlier this week.

There are some more upcoming Netflix expiration dates to be aware of:

If you’re wondering why I haven’t mentioned updates to my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu page in the last few Streaming Video News posts, it’s because there’s not been much to report. Just a few random cable shows added and the odd Bengali movie from 2018. Things look like they’ll be slow until mid-September when the streamer debuts the new Telugu series Rambo in Love and Season 2 of Kajol’s series The Trial.

Streaming Video News: August 21, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s streaming debuts of Kajol’s horror flick Maa and the Tamil film Maareesan. There are more upcoming Netflix expiration dates to be aware of, besides those I mentioned last week. I’m especially sad to see Cargo leave. Here’s the films on the way out:

This isn’t related to Indian cinema, but I wrote a piece for What’s on Netflix about what animated films to watch if your kids are obsessed with Kpop Demon Hunters and you need to redirect them to something different. This is a global problem. 😉

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s streaming debut of the Tamil film Thalaivan Thalaivii. The Telugu movie Hari Hara Veera Mallu joined the catalog earlier this week. Prime made two big announcements today, including an 8-film post-theatrical licensing deal with Maddock Films and an August 29 premiere date for the new Original Hindi movie Songs of Paradise.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s premiere of the new Hindi horror series Andhera.

Today’s new streaming-exclusive Hindi film is John Abraham’s spy flick Tehran on Zee5.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the debut of the new Original series Saare Jahan Se Accha. I wrote up everything you need to know about Saare Jahan Se Accha for What’s on Netflix.

Netflix is set to lose its last Gujarati-language film and most of its Marathi catalogue on September 9. Here’s what’s on the way out:

Renting Aamir Khan’s Latest Movie on YouTube

Aamir Khan forged a new path for the digital release of Sitaare Zameen Par. He declined licensing offers from major subscription streaming services in favor of renting the film directly to consumers via YouTube. This allowed fans around the world to access the movie at a price cheaper than the cost of a monthly subscription.

I rented Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube (review to come). I found the process pretty easy, though it somewhat depends on your intended playback method. Here’s what I did:

In the United States, Sitaare Zameen Par costs $6.99 to rent. I saved the film in my YouTube “Watch Later” playlist, so I accessed it from there. However, the easiest place to find it is at the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube account in their Janta Ka Theatre playlist. Sitaare Zameen Par is in there along with other movies for rent. Here’s the current list with their US rental prices (note that Aamir charges more for movies where he’s the star LOL):

Dangal — $5.99
Lagaan — $5.99
Taare Zameen Par — $5.99
Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na — $3.99
Secret Superstar — $3.99

Out of curiosity, I checked how the prices compared to a few other Hindi movies available for rent on YouTube. Chak De India rents for $1.99, and Shabaash Mithu rents for $3.99 (in high definition, like the Aamir Khan films).

For playback, I opted to watch Sitaare Zameen Par via the YouTube app on my Apple TV. However, the film can’t be rented through the Apple TV app directly. I had to rent it via the YouTube app on my phone first before I could play it on the Apple TV.

Overall, the picture and sound quality are good, comparable to other subscription streaming services. Turning the subtitles on and off is annoying in the Apple TV app. It kept accidentally fast-forwarding the movie when I tried to reach the “closed caption” menu.

I used my phone to cast the film from YouTube to my Chromecast and found it much easier to access the audio and subtitle menus, as you have to pause the movie before interacting with other menus. Since you have to use your phone to rent the movie anyway, I’d probably just cast from my phone to the Chromecast and skip the Apple TV for future YouTube rentals.

I’m not sure if this new rental format will be an industry game changer, but I hope it gives filmmakers an alternative avenue to digital accessibility. The major streamers are being more cautious about licensing content, and smaller films struggle to find an online home as a result. At the right price point, this could help these movies widen their reach after their theatrical runs end (or allow them to bypass theaters altogether).

Streaming Video News: July 31, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s streaming debut of both versions of Housefull 5 (each with a different ending): Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s streaming debut of the Telugu film Thammudu.

ZEE5 premiered the new Hindi series Bakaiti today, starring Rajesh Tailang and Sheeba Chaddha. It has just 7 episodes that average about 20-minutes long — so about two-and-a-half hours to finish the series.

The big news this week is that Aamir Khan opted to make his recent theatrical release Sitaare Zameen Par available for rent on YouTube rather than sell the rights to a subscription streaming service. Click here to rent Sitaare Zameen Par in the United States for $6.99. It has Hindi and Turkish audio options and a “CC” logo, which I hope means English subtitles, but I haven’t verified that yet. News stories had made it seem like Khan would host the rental on his Aamir Khan Talkies page, but the rental is done via the YouTube Movies & TV channel.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the new YRF thriller series Mandala Murders. Check out my preview of Mandala Murders for What’s on Netflix to see if the show is for you. A handful of Indian films are set to expire from Netflix on August 21, and some of them are worth watching while you can. Here’s what’s leaving August 21:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the premiere of the new Hindi film Sarzameen (also available in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the premiere of the new Hindi series Rangeen and the streaming debut of the Tamil movie Maargan.

Streaming Video News: July 18, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the Vir Das comedy special Fool Volume — his 6th standup special for Netflix! This week, the streamer announced an August 13 release date for the new spy series Saare Jahan Se Accha.

Here are some upcoming Netflix expiration dates to be aware of:

This weekend’s new Hindi streaming debut is the Sanjay Dutt-Mouni Roy horror comedy The Bhootnii on ZEE5.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the premiere of Season 2 of Special Ops (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu) and the streaming debut of the Tamil film DNA (also available in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the streaming debuts of both the Tamil version and Telugu version of Kuberaa (which was filmed in both languages simultaneously).

Streaming Video News: July 3, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s world premiere of the Amazon Original Telugu comedy Uppu Kappurambu.

Today, ZEE5 premiered Abhishek Bachchan’s new film Kaalidhar Laapata, a remake of the 2019 Tamil movie K.D.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with yesterday’s streaming debut of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Thug Life. If you missed any of the Indian content added to Netflix in June, check out my monthly recap for What’s on Netflix. While you’re there, check out my list of reality game shows to watch on Netflix if you’re a fan of the games in Squid Game. I’m proud of it.

There’s no sign of the new Hotstar Indian Original shows Good Wife or Mistry on Hulu, which is par for the course these days. But, hey, they just added the 1987 film Imaandaar, so that’s something.

Since we’re at the mid-point of the year — and there’s not much new to watch on a holiday weekend — here are my Top 5 films of 2025 so far (with the caveat that I haven’t seen any of the Hindi theatrical releases from May or June yet):

  1. Mrs.★★★½
  2. Stolen  — ★★★½
  3. Superboys of Malegaon★★★½
  4. Dhoom Dhaam★★★½
  5. Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins★★★

Bonus: There’s a discount on A Nice Indian Boy for rent or purchase at Amazon right now. It’s a great feel-good movie!

Have a nice 3-day weekend! — Kathy
