I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the Vir Das comedy special Fool Volume — his 6th standup special for Netflix! This week, the streamer announced an August 13 release date for the new spy series Saare Jahan Se Accha.

This weekend’s new Hindi streaming debut is the Sanjay Dutt-Mouni Roy horror comedy The Bhootnii on ZEE5.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the premiere of Season 2 of Special Ops (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu) and the streaming debut of the Tamil film DNA (also available in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the streaming debuts of both the Tamil version and Telugu version of Kuberaa (which was filmed in both languages simultaneously).

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the streaming premiere of Emraan Hashmi’s terrorism flick Ground Zero. Amazon also released a trailer for its first Original Telugu film Uppu Kappurambu, which debuts July 4:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the debut of the second season of the Malayalam series Kerala Crime Files: The Search for CPO Ambili Raju (also available in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, & Telugu).

Yesterday, ZEE5 premiered the Diljit Dosanjh mystery film Detective Sherdil.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with release dates for a couple of Original projects. The R. Madhavan-Fatima Sana Shaikh romance film Aap Jaisa Koi debuts on July 11, followed by the Vir Das comedy special Fool Volume on July 18. The celebrity chat show The Great Indian Kapil Show returns on Saturday, June 21 with a big first guest — Salman Khan:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s big announcement of more than 40 new Indian movies, TV series, and specials that Netflix plans to release in 2021. Many of these titles were previously announced — I wrote about a number of them for my 2021 Netflix preview for What’s On Netflix — but some are brand new. I’ll go into detail about each of the different categories, but first check out this general teaser video Netflix India released:

First up is movies. Today’s announcement includes 13 titles. Netflix had already announced a March 26 premiere date for Pagglait and released teaser videos for Dhamaka and Jagame Thandhiram. The Karan Johar-produced anthology film which had been called The Other is renamed Ajeeb Daastaans. Three films that I previewed in my piece for What’s On Netflix mentioned above were not included in today’s announcement: Cobalt Blue, Desert Dolphin, and Freedom. Here are all the movies included in today’s press release (Hindi-language, unless otherwise specified) with links to their Netflix entries where available, followed by another video specifically focused on Original films:

The bulk of today’s announcement was made up of fiction TV series, including 9 brand new shows and new seasons of 6 returning series. Bombay Begums already has a March 8 premiere date. The series starring Madhuri Dixit Nene that was rumored to be called Actress is officially titled Finding Anamika. Baahubali: Before the Beginning was conspicuously absent from today’s announcement, as were updates on new seasons for Hashmukh and Selection Day. Finally, Netflix announced 13 non-fiction movies, series, and stand-up comedy specials. No word on a second season of Indian Matchmaking, but The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives and The Big Day are both returning. Here are the Unscripted Originals coming to Netflix in 2021.

I’ll update my Netflix page as soon as release dates for these titles are announced. Get those watchlists ready, people!

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films added in the last week, including the 2020 Tamil releases God Father and Sandimuni and the Vicky Kaushal horror flick Bhoot: Part 1 — The Haunted Ship. The Taapsee Pannu social issue drama Thappad is now coming to Prime on May 1.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of Dulquer Salmaan’s 2020 Malayalam release Varane Avashyamund, the 2019 Tamil film Kolaiyuthir Kaalam, and the new stand-up comedy special Yours Sincerely, Kanan Gill. I also included Chris Hemsworth’s new action flick Extraction in the list because it features Bollywood actors Randeep Hooda, Pankaj Tripathi, and Priyanshu Painyuli.

More than 30 Indian movies will expire from Netflix on May 1, so catch these while you can:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the additions of the Amit Tandon stand-up comedy special Family Tandoncies and the 2020 Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a handful of newly added Indian titles, including Mohanlal’s 2020 Malayalam release Big Brother (also in 4K UHD) and the Malayalam version of Rajinikanth’s Darbar (standard and 4K UHD). Bipasha Basu’s 2015 horror flick Alone is also now available for streaming. I really liked it.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of Indian content added in the last week, including the debut of the Amazon Original Hindi series The Forgotten Army: Azaadi Ke Liye (also available in 4K UHD). Recently added 2019 releases include:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the 2019 Tamil road trip film K.D. (A) Karuppudurai. There are a few new releases lined up before the end of the month, including the stand-up special Vir Das for India on January 26. The Rajkummar Rao-Hema Malini romantic comedy Shimla Mirchi debuts on January 27, following a really brief theatrical run in India earlier this month. On January 30, we finally get Karan Johar’s makeover reality dating show What the Love!, which will either be great or disastrous. Celebrity guests include Huma Qureshi, Saif Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, and Sunny Leone.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of new additions to the streaming catalog. Highlights among the recently added movies — which mostly consist of older Hindi and Telugu titles — include Village Rockstars, India’s submission to this year’s Oscars. The movie was originally filmed in Assamese, but Amazon’s version is dubbed in Hindi. Also new is the Richa Chadda & Neil Nitin Mukesh movie Ishqeria, which was filmed from 2012-2014 but didn’t release until September of last year. I’m also really excited because Andhadhun director Sriram Raghavan’s first film, Ek Hasina Thi, is finally available for streaming.

Amazon’s recent strategy — at least the one they’re allowing distributors to pursue — is to add about a dozen or so Indian movies to the catalog every day. It sounds cool, but it’s really easy to miss stuff if you take a few days off. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for you to visit Access Bollywood every day to see what’s new, but you shouldn’t be obligated. Adding movies in large batches on a regular schedule would give titles and consumers (and me, LOL!) room to breathe.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix. Netflix started the new year quietly, with the addition of three Tamil movies — Merku Thodarchi Malai, Puriyatha Puthir, and Taramani — and the original series Comedians of the World, featuring stand-up specials from Indian comics Atul Khatri, Aditi Mittal, and Amit Tandon.
