Streaming Video News: September 12, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the streaming debut of this year’s surprise box office hit Saiyaara.

I also update my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with yesterday’s premiere of the new Hindi series Do You Wanna Partner, starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty. Other big new additions this week include Rajnikanth’s Coolie and the Telugu films Paradha and Kannappa.

Amazon released a teaser for the chat show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, debuting September 25:

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the premiere of the new Telugu series Rambo in Love (also in Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil). Other recent additions include the Hindi-dubbed version Thammudu (the original Telugu version is on Netflix) and the Kannada movie Su From So (also in Malayalam and Telugu).

Update on My Hulu Streaming Page Audit

Four months ago, I posted that a large number of Hindi movies had disappeared from Hulu. I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but it was likely after Disney and Reliance announced their merger in late 2024. Since that February post, I’ve clicked on all of the approximately 2,000 links I had on my Bollywood Movies Streaming on Hulu page at the start of 2025 to see which are still active.

After removing all the inactive links, my Hulu page is less the half the size it previously was. Approximately 800 titles remain (with a couple of caveats I’ll get to in a bit). Most of the loses were within Hulu’s Indian movie collection. As it stands, there are 53 films in the Hindi/Desi section, 4 Bengali movies, 17 Kannada films, 19 Malayalam movies, 13 Marathi films, 20 Tamil movies, and 22 Telugu films. I removed over 1,000 movies from the page.

Admittedly, I’m probably missing some titles. I look for movies and series myself, getting updates from various news sources and even checking the “You May Also Like” recommendations under individual titles. None of what I do is automated.

Besides that acknowledgment, there are two big caveats. While some movies and series have disappeared outright and don’t return a result when you search Hulu’s catalog for them, other catalog entries remain with the option to watch the trailer. Gaslight is an example, though there are other films and series to which this applies. Disney’s plans for Hulu are still in flux, and that goes double for the “Hotstar” Indian content it hosts. I’m keeping these “trailer only” links in the page for now since I’m not certain that they’re gone for good.

The other caveat is that the 800 or so remaining titles are not all unique properties. Thanks to dubbing, a lot of titles repeat within the catalog. Hulu/JioHotstar presents almost all of their original “Hotstar Specials” programming — which includes around 70 series — in seven languages (the original plus six dubs). That means that fewer than half of the 800 links on the page represent unique titles.

While I give credit to Hulu/JioHotstar for adding new, original Indian shows on an almost weekly basis, it’s a huge shame to lose so much of its movie collection. A lot of these back catalog titles aren’t streaming anywhere else right now. They’re just gone, and I’m not sure they’ll be back once Disney figures out how it wants to organize its various streaming entities.

Streaming Video News: August 11, 2022

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Taapsee Pannu sports biopic Shabaash Mithu. Yesterday marked the debut of Indian Matchmaking Season 2 and the return of Season 1 villain Aparna. A new season of Never Have I Ever drops on Friday, followed by the Hindi action movie Nikamma on Saturday.

Netflix India announced the details on their slate of non-fiction content set to debut before the end of 2022, including release dates for two of the titles. Season 2 of The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives launches on September 2, and the second entry in the Indian Predator series — The Diary of a Serial Killer — comes out September 7.  Other titles mentioned in the reveal video (embedded below) include the previously announced series Social Currency, the new series IRL: In Real Love, and two new documentaries — Mumbai Mafia: Police vs The Underworld and Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s debut of Mind the Malhotras Season 2. Other new additions this week include Malayankunju (Malayalam) and Thank You (Telugu).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s premiere of the Tamil film Cadaver (also available in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu). Another new addition to Hulu this week is the Telugu movie The Warriorr.

Bonus: Aditya Roy Kapur’s action flick Rashtra Kavach Om is now streaming on Zee5.

Streaming Video News: April 8, 2022

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with two new Hindi films added this week: the comedy Dasvi and the LGBTQ drama Cobalt Blue (which was not very good). Also new this week is the social justice action flick Etharkkum Thunindhavan, available in its original Tamil plus dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu.

In other Netflix news, the Malayalam film Night Drive debuts on the service in the US in the early afternoon on April 9. Also, the title of the upcoming Netflix Original Hindi film Jaadugar — which I wrote about in my 2022 preview for What’s on Netflix — has been changed to Love Goals.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the streaming premiere of the Malayalam film Naradan. Amazon just released the trailer of their upcoming Hindi legal drama Guilty Minds, which debuts on April 22:

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the worldwide premiere of the Tamil police drama Taanakkaran, also available in Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu.

Streaming Video News: November 5, 2021

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premier of the new Hindi romcom Meenakshi Sundareshwar and the addition of the Tamil film Doctor, which is also available in Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu. The 2021 Tamil movie Mughizh lands on Netflix November 6.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with this week’s addition of the Telugu film Gully Rowdy and the Tamil flick MGR Magan (also available in Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu).

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime as well, with the debuts of the new Hindi series Akkad Bakkad Rafu Chakkar (also in 4K UHD) and the courtroom drama Jai Bhim, which is available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada & Malayalam.

Although Mumbai theaters have officially been open for a couple of weeks, Bollywood’s return to cinemas starts today with the release of Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi. So when can we expect it and other theatrical releases to make their way to streaming services? While the theatrical exclusivity window used to be eight weeks, reports have many upcoming titles coming to streaming after just four weeks — an acknowledgement that a large portion of the audience is still uncomfortable attending showings in theaters. That would see Sooryavanshi coming to Netflix in early December. I list movies’ streaming partners on my Upcoming Bollywood Releases page, so check it to see where films are heading after their theatrical runs wind down.

Happy Diwali! — Kathy

Streaming Video News: September 17, 2021

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Netflix Original film Ankahi Kahaniya, an anthology of three shorts directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Abhishek Chaubey, and Saket Chaudhury. This week also saw the return of the series Dharmakshetra, Raja Rasoi Aur Anya Kahaniyan, and Stories by Rabindranath Tagore.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime because Akshay Kumar’s August theatrical release BellBottom is now available for streaming.

Finally, I finished adding all of the Hotstar content currently available on Hulu in all languages to my new list of Bollywood movies on Hulu. For now, the only sizable movie catalogs are in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with the Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, and Marathi catalogs consisting almost entirely of “Hotstar Specials” releases. It’s worth noting that dozens of the movies listed as currently streaming in the United States on this list from Hotstar aren’t actually available. We’ll see if they’re added over time.

Today’s new additions to Hulu/Hotstar are the new Telugu movie Maestro and the Tamil film Annabelle Sethupathi, which is also available in dubbed versions in Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi (under the title Annabelle Rathore).
