I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s premiere of Season 4 of the Hindi series Four More Shots Please!. Earlier this week, the Maddock Horror Universe vampire flick Thamma started streaming on Prime.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s debut of the Telugu film Premante. Here’s where we stand with all the Yash Raj Films titles added for the “Holiday Season” event that runs through December 27:

The Netflix Original movie sequel Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders premieres on Friday, followed by Season 4 of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Saturday, with first guest Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

My list of Bollywood movies on Hulu got an update today with two new series: Madhuri Dixit’s Hindi show Mrs. Deshpande (also in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu) and the Malayalam series Pharma (also in Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu).

After posting a review of Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders on Friday, I’m going to take some time off for the holidays. I’ll try to update the three main streaming pages with new additions, but I’ll do so sporadically. Here’s a calendar of some of the films and shows coming to streaming over the next couple of weeks (including the few we know from the rest of the YRF Holiday Season event):

December 22: Aaha Kalyanam (Tamil) on Netflix
December 25: Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on ZEE5
December 26: Ek Tha Tiger, Hichki, Sultan, & Tiger Zinda Hai on Netflix
January 1, 2026: LBW: Love Beyond Wicket, Season 1 (Tamil) on Hulu

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with December 28 expiration dates for all of the Excel Entertainment films currently in the Netflix catalog. Those titles are:

These films flip-flop between Netflix and Amazon Prime every three years. Most of them are already streaming on Prime, except for Game and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (which is on Eros Now).

Two other Hindi films will expire from Netflix on December 31: Sanju and PK (★★★½).

The Yash Raj Films returns event proceeds apace on Netflix, with a Ranveer Singh collection coming in the afternoon of Thursday, December 4 in the United States and a Salman Khan collection coming December 26. There’s also a “Holiday Season” event running from December 11-27 with two films joining the Netflix catalog each day. Here are the titles and dates we know so far:

December 12 – Bewakoofiyaan & Mere Dad Ki Maruthi
December 13 – Bank Chor & Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!
December 15 – Sui Dhaaga: Made in India
December 16 – Daawat-e-Ishq & Mere Brother Ki Dulhan
December 23 – Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (per CinemaRare)
December 24 – Bunty Aur Babli (per CinemaRare)

Finally, Netflix very quietly announced the return of The Great Indian Kapil Show by adding “Season 4 Coming December 20” tag to its landing page.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the Original Hindi film Inspector Zende, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh. I enjoyed Inspector Zende, but if you’re not sure if this crime comedy is for you, check out my Inspector Zende preview for What’s on Netflix.

The latest Netflix expiration news is that all versions of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion are leaving on September 30. The combined Baahubali: The Epic hits theaters October 31, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that has something to do with the Netflix removal.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with yesterday’s streaming debut of Rajkummar Rao’s action film Maalik.

If that’s not enough to watch this weekend, the Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor romance Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is now streaming on ZEE5.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s premiere of the new Hindi horror series Andhera.

Today’s new streaming-exclusive Hindi film is John Abraham’s spy flick Tehran on Zee5.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the debut of the new Original series Saare Jahan Se Accha. I wrote up everything you need to know about Saare Jahan Se Accha for What’s on Netflix.

Netflix is set to lose its last Gujarati-language film and most of its Marathi catalogue on September 9. Here’s what’s on the way out:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s debut of the Original music documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous. Netflix also announced the first two Original premiere dates for 2025. Vikramaditya Motwane’s drama series Black Warrant comes out on January 10, and the celebrity docu-series The Roshans releases on January 17. I wrote a preview of Black Warrant for What’s on Netflix.

In other Netflix news, I was recently a guest on an episode of the Bollywood Drafts podcast where we ranked the Top 10 Netflix Original Hindi Films. I had so much fun talking with Suchin and Cris about their favorites — including some intriguing movies that I Whathaven’t seen — and I appreciate host Manish for having my back on a controversial pick. 🙂 Without spoiling the final rankings, here was the Top 10 list I assembled before the recording (title links go to the Netflix entry, star links go to my review):

I’m going to take most of the rest of 2024 off for the holidays. It’s a good time, too, since things look very quiet on the streamers for the next two weeks. I expect to see Singham Again debut on Amazon Prime on the afternoon of Thursday, December 26. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 should come out on Netflix on the same day, which is also when the Tamil film Sorgavaasal is scheduled to debut.

After the new year starts, it’s time to review some final movies before making my Best and Worst of 2024 lists. I’m considering box office blockbusters like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, plus Fighter, Bad Newz, and Baby John (though that likely won’t stream until late February). I’m also interested in theatrical releases Jigra and Madgaon Express and OTT exclusives Sikander Ka Muqaddar and Despatch. Which titles should I prioritize? Anything I’ve left off of your must-watch list?

Most Watched Netflix Original Indian Movies of 2024

What’s on Netflix — the great site that just published my huge Netflix Indian Originals 2025 preview — posted their guide to the most watched Netflix Original movies of 2024. Two charts separate English Original movies from non-English Original movies. Tabs allow you so see how films performed in their first, second, third, and fourth week of release.

The data is derived from Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists, posted every Tuesday. This is a smaller subset of the data Netflix publishes every six months in its Engagement Reports, but that information obviously isn’t out for the second half of 2024. Though less comprehensive, data from the weekly Top 10 lists still gives us a good idea of which Netflix Originals were most popular — or at least most in-demand right after they released.

I’m going to look at just the results for the First Four Weeks as compiled by What’s on Netflix to see what Indian Original movies released in 2024 were the most popular. I’ve noted below which movies did not rank in the Top 10 for four full weeks after their release (or failed to chart at all). The links below go to my review of each film. Here are the Most Watched Netflix Original Indian movies of 2024:

  1. Do Patti — 17,000,000 cumulative views
  2. Sector 36 — 12,100,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 3 weeks)
  3. Maharaj — 11,600,000 cumulative views
  4. Bhakshak — 10,400,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 3 weeks)
  5. Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba — 10,100,000 cumulative views
  6. Sikandar Ka Muqaddar — 9,500,000 cumulative views (in first 3 weeks)
  7. Murder Mubarak — 6,300,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 2 weeks)
  8. Amar Singh Chamkila — 5,300,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 2 weeks)
  9. Wild Wild Punjab — 4,500,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 2 weeks)
  10. CTRL — 2,100,000 cumulative views (dropped out after 1 week)
  11. Vijay 69 — Failed to feature in the weekly Top 10

It’s no shock to find Do Patti atop the list with stars as big as Kriti Sanon and Kajol in the leading roles. Given the dark subject matter of Sector 36, I’m a little surprised to see it in second place (not that I’m complaining; it’s a great movie). Undoubtedly, news about the court case that delayed Maharaj‘s release raised awareness of the film.

Sikandar Ka Muqaddar hasn’t even been out for four weeks yet, so it’ll be fun to see if it can climb past Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba into fifth place when it completes its first month of release.

The two major disappointments on the list are Amar Singh Chamkila and CTRL, two of my favorites of the year. When the next Engagement Report comes out, I hope the data will report that they were just slow burns that got more views over time. They really are worth watching.

Quick update to say that my very, very big preview of New Indian Netflix Original Movies and Series Coming to Netflix is up at What’s on Netflix. I’ve got detailed write-ups of 11 new series, 12 new movies, and 11 returning series, with details on cast, plot, and production status. There are also some small bits of news about projects with indeterminate fates (I’m ready to declare Baahubali: Before the Beginning dead). My favorite tidbit is about the crime series that likely won’t be going forward because its creator was arrested for fraud.

Please give the post a read. It’s a ton of work, but I really have fun putting it together. What Netflix Original shows and movies are you looking forward to next year?

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of Vikramaditya Motwane’s thriller CTRL, starring Ananya Panday. Earlier this week, the streamer added the Tamil hit GOAT – The Greatest of All Time.

Speaking of Indian box office hits, I wrote about the biggest theatrical blockbusters streaming on Netflix for What’s on Netflix.

Yesterday, ZEE5 premiered the Anupam Kher drama The Signature.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon prime with the new Hindi series about social media influencers called The Tribe.

Next week could be a busy week on the streaming services. Akshay Kumar’s film Sarfira is coming to Hulu on October 11 (probably the 10th in the United States), along with the Tamil movie Vaazhai. Other theatrical releases likely making their streaming debuts on October 10 include Khel Khel Mein on Netflix, Stree 2 on Amazon Prime, and Vedaa on ZEE5, though none of those have been officially announced yet. We’ll have to see what happens next week.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of a couple of theatrical releases: Akshay Kumar’s disaster drama Mission Raniganj and Bhumi Pednekar’s comedy Thank You for Coming (which I thought was okay). Some older Telugu films were added as well:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of the Malayalam film Garudan and two new Amazon Original series: Shehar Lakhot (Hindi) and Dhootha (Telugu).

Next week is going to be really busy for new streaming-exclusive Hindi films. The big one, of course, is The Archies (read my preview at What’s on Netflix) on Netflix on Thursday, December 7. [For some reason, Netflix is adding the theatrical release Dhak Dhak that day as well.] Then, on December 8 — although more likely the afternoon of the 7th in North America — Amazon Prime debuts the comedy Mast Mein Rehna Ka starring Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta and Zee5 launches the Pankaj Tripathi thriller Kadak Singh. Clear your schedule, ’cause there’s gonna be a lot of new stuff to watch!

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s world premiere of the Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor romantic drama Bawaal.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu because Kajol’s new series The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha is now available for streaming in the United States — a full week after it debuted in India. Besides the original Hindi version, it’s also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the Tamil horror flick Asvins, which is also streaming in Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu. There are also a number of Indian titles set to expire from Netflix in August:

Netflix has produced a lot of Original anthology films and series over the years, so I took a look at directors who have contributed to these anthologies to see which of them have multiple other projects currently available for streaming on Netflix.
