Opening August 15: Mission Mangal and Batla House

Two new Hindi movies open in the Chicago area on Thursday, August 15, 2019, on the occasion of Indian Independence Day (with additional theaters carrying the movies starting Friday). The bigger release of the two is Mission Mangal, a space drama starring Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, and Akshay Kumar.

Mission Mangal opens Thursday at the Regal Round Lake Beach in Round Lake Beach, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, Regal Cantera in Warrenville, AMC Naperville 16 in Naperville, and AMC Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. On Friday, Mission Mangal opens at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 7 min.

The other new holiday release is John Abraham’s crime drama Batla House.

Batla House opens on Thursday at MovieMax, and it expands on Friday to the River East 21 and South Barrington 24. It has a listed runtime of 2 hr. 26 min.

Jabariya Jodi gets a second weekend at MovieMax and South Barrington 24.

Opening August 15: Gold and Satyameva Jayate

Two new releases hit Chicago area theaters on August 15, 2018, in honor of Indian Independence Day. The wider release of the two is Gold, starring Akshay Kumar in the story of India’s first Olympic gold medal victory in 1948. The movie features Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, and Farhan Akhtar in supporting roles and is directed by Talaash‘s Reema Kagti.

Gold opens on Wednesday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC Showplace Niles 12 in Niles (in IMAX 2D), AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington (in IMAX 2D), Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, Century Stratford Square in Bloomingdale, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, and AMC Showplace Naperville 16 in Naperville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 31 min.

Also new for the holiday is the action thriller Satyameva Jayate, starring John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee. Satyameva Jayate opens Wednesday at MovieMax and the South Barrington 24. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 22 min.

Fanney Khan gets at third week at the South Barrington 24, while Mulk and Dhadak carry over in limited showings at MovieMax.

Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns opens in the Chicago area on August 15, 2014. The followup to 2011’s Singham features Kareena Kapoor Khan as the female lead, replacing the original film’s heroine, Kajal Agarwal.

Singham Returns opens on Friday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, AMC Showplace Niles 12 in Niles, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. OUATIMD opens on Thursday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 38 min.

After breaking first-weekend box office records with U.S. earnings of $2,416,513, Chennai Express carries over for a second week at all of the above theaters, plus the AMC Loews Crestwood 18 in Crestwood and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge.

Opening August 15: Ek Tha Tiger

Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger roars its way into theaters on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. The pairing of Salman and co-star Katrina Kaif with the legendary production house Yash Raj Films guarantees that Ek Tha Tiger will do blockbuster business. To avoid the competition, no new Hindi films are being released until Friday, August 24. Additionally, Chicago area theaters are clearing their screens of all other Bollywood titles to make way for the Tiger.

Ek Tha Tiger opens on Wednesday in four Chicagoland theaters: Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville.
