Streaming Video News: November 3, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Telugu movie MAD and Wednesday’s streaming debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Jawan (also available in Tamil and Telugu). While Netflix bills their version as the “Extended Cut,” it’s only one minute longer than the theatrical release.

There are a few Indian titles scheduled to expire from Netflix this month, but the real news is that Netflix is poised to lose almost its entire Punjabi collection on December 1:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with the addition of the Telugu film Skanda: The Attacker (also in Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil) and the debut of Season 3 of the Hindi series Aarya (also in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the Tamil film Raththam and the premiere of the Hindi mystery series PI Meena. Keep in mind that searching for it as “P. I. Meena” returns no results. It can only be found by searching for “PI Meena.”

Amazon Prime is getting a big direct-to-streaming release with Pippa, starring Ishaan Khattar and Mrunal Thakur. The war drama debuts on Prime on November 10 (likely the afternoon of November 9 in the US):

MY3 is an official remake of the 2017 Korean series I’m Not a Robot.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon with this week’s premiere of the new Hindi series Bambai Meri Jaan (“Bombay My Beloved“).

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the streaming debuts of the Telugu films Ramabanam and Bhola Shankar. Netflix also announced an October 5 release date for director Vishal Bhardwaj’s Netflix Original movie Khufiya (aka “House of Spies“):

If you want to read more about next week’s big premiere of director Sujoy Ghosh’s Netflix Original thriller Jaane Jaan (aka “Suspect X“), check out this preview I wrote for What’s on Netflix.

Finally, I was able to review Bhumi Pednekar’s comedy Thank You for Coming ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s additions of Vidya Balan’s murder mystery Neeyat and the Telugu film Ustaad (which is listed in Amazon’s catalog as “The Ustaad,” for some reason).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s premiere of the new Hindi series The Freelancer, which is also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.

I will update my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix tomorrow with the debut of the Netflix Original film Friday Night Plan, starring Juhi Chawla and Irrfan Khan’s son, Babil. This week, Netflix announced a December 7 release date for Zoya Akhtar’s hotly anticipated movie The Archies.

Streaming Video News: August 24, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s additions of the Hindi romance Satyaprem Ki Katha and the Tamil horror flick Pizza 3: The Mummy. Earlier this week, the Kannada film Aachar & Co became available for streaming.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s debut of Tamannaah Bhatia’s new Hindi crime series Aakhri Sach, which is available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu as well. The first two episodes are available for streaming right now, with new episodes added on Fridays (Thursday afternoons in the US, probably).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Telugu movie Bro., which is also available in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil.

News leaked this week that Sujoy Ghosh’s Netflix Original film adaptation of the novel The Devotion of Suspect X starring Kareena Kapoor Khan will be called Jaane Jaan (although in the US, the title is listed as “Suspect X,” for some reason). Netflix made a cute video celebrating Kareena’s streaming debut (which may happen next month). [Update: Netflix officially announced its release date as September 21, Bebo’s birthday]:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s additions of the Telugu version of Adipurush (Hindi is not one of the additional dialogue options in the audio menu — the Hindi version of Adipurush is streaming on Netflix) and the Tamil film Maaveeran. A Hindi dub of Maaveeran is also available as well as a Telugu version under the title Mahaveerudu. Earlier this week, Amazon released Season 2 of the Hindi series Made in Heaven and launched the trailer for the series AP Dhillon: First of a Kind, which comes out August 18:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s premiere of the action series Commando, which is based on the excellent Vidyut Jammwal movie of the same name but does not star Jammwal. It’s available in Hindi along with dubbed versions in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Earlier this week, Hulu added the Malayalam film Neymar to its catalog, along with versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Hindi version of Adipurush and the Malayalam movie Padmini. As a reminder, here are some important Netflix expiration dates coming soon:

Bonus: I wrote a piece for What’s on Netflix with all the info you need to know about Guns & Gulaabs, the new series from Raj & DK that comes to Netflix on August 18.

Streaming Video News: July 20, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s world premiere of the Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor romantic drama Bawaal.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu because Kajol’s new series The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha is now available for streaming in the United States — a full week after it debuted in India. Besides the original Hindi version, it’s also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of the Tamil horror flick Asvins, which is also streaming in Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu. There are also a number of Indian titles set to expire from Netflix in August:

Netflix has produced a lot of Original anthology films and series over the years, so I took a look at directors who have contributed to these anthologies to see which of them have multiple other projects currently available for streaming on Netflix. Check out my piece for What’s on Netflix titled How Netflix Indian Anthologies Can Help You Find Your New Favorite Director.

Streaming Video News: June 29, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of the Hindi theatrical release Afwaah and the debut of the Original anthology film Lust Stories 2 — a sequel to 2018’s Lust Stories featuring short movies from four new directors. I really enjoyed Lust Stories 2, particularly the films by R. Balki and Sujoy Ghosh (both of which are less than 30 minutes long).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s release of three new episodes of the Hindi series The Night Manager (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, & Telugu).

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s addition of the Tamil film Veeran. [Disclaimer: my Amazon links include an affiliate tag, and I may earn a commission on purchases made via those links. Thanks for helping to support this website!]

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the new Original Hindi series, Scoop, directed by Hansal Mehta. Other additions in the last two days include the return of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (which I thought was decent), a new season of Chhota Bheem, and the 2013 Telugu films Attarintiki Daredi, David, Ramachari, and Ramayya Vasthavayya.

If you missed out on anything added to Netflix last month, check out my May recap for What’s on Netflix.

Finally, I update my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the additions of the Marathi film Maharashtra Shaheer, the Telugu movie Ugram, and the streaming debut of the Tamil epic Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2. Here’s a link to Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 if you need to catch up.

Streaming Video News: May 24, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s addition of two Hindi theatrical releases: Jimmy Shergill’s Operation Mayfair and the social issue drama Bheed. It’s worth noting that the version of Bheed — which deals with the turmoil of India’s COVID-19 lockdown — that Netflix carries is the censored version of the film, according to this report in The Hindu.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s addition of Ajay Devgn’s March theatrical release Bholaa.

I’ll update my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu tomorrow when Season 3 of the Hindi series City of Dreams debuts.

Streaming Video News: May 5, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with this week’s surprise addition of the 2023 Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor romantic comedy Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. A bunch of Telugu titles were added as well, including Amrutham Chandamamalo, Rowdy Fellow, Thammudu, Three, Yogi, and the 2023 theatrical release Meter.

Weirdly, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is temporarily unavailable after having just been added to Netflix on March 15. It’s set to return May 31. A handful of Indian titles will expire from Netflix over the next several weeks, including:

Netflix also dropped the trailer for the Original Hindi comedy Kathal, which debuts May 19:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with yesterday’s premiere of the new Hindi series Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu). The service announced that the Hindi series The Night Manager returns June 30.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of the Malayalam film Enthadaa Saji and the debut of the new comedy special Biswa Kalyan Rath’s Mood Kharaab. Amazon released the trailer for the Hindi thriller series Dahaad, which premieres May 12. It looks pretty good:
