Streaming Video News: May 5, 2023

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with this week’s surprise addition of the 2023 Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor romantic comedy Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. A bunch of Telugu titles were added as well, including Amrutham Chandamamalo, Rowdy Fellow, Thammudu, Three, Yogi, and the 2023 theatrical release Meter.

Weirdly, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is temporarily unavailable after having just been added to Netflix on March 15. It’s set to return May 31. A handful of Indian titles will expire from Netflix over the next several weeks, including:

Netflix also dropped the trailer for the Original Hindi comedy Kathal, which debuts May 19:

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with yesterday’s premiere of the new Hindi series Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu). The service announced that the Hindi series The Night Manager returns June 30.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of the Malayalam film Enthadaa Saji and the debut of the new comedy special Biswa Kalyan Rath’s Mood Kharaab. Amazon released the trailer for the Hindi thriller series Dahaad, which premieres May 12. It looks pretty good:

Streaming Video News: June 21, 2019

Vacation’s over! I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a bunch of new additions in the last two weeks. Besides lots of cartoons for kids, a trio of 2019 releases were just added: the Marathi film Luckee and the Hindi movies Rakkhosh and Luka Chuppi. Also new are the Netflix original series Leila and last year’s delighfully clever horror comedy Stree.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than 50 Indian titles added in the last two weeks. 2019 releases added include the Amazon original series Mind the Malhotras, Anu Menon’s standup comedy special Wonder Menon, and the following films:

Thanks to everyone who wished me well during my time off. It was great to spend time with my nieces and nephew. Have a great weekend! — Kathy

Streaming Video News: February 15, 2019

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with nine newly added Indian films, including the 2018 Telugu movies Awe and Neevevaro. Kalki Koechlin’s 2017 Hindi release Candyflip is now available, as is Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Chameli. Ranvir Shorey fans can choose from Fatso, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, and Ugly Aur Pagli.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime today with seven new additions, which amounts to a slow day for Prime. Fifty-two Indian movies in total have been added in the four days since my last streaming video update, among them a new comedy special featuring Kanan Gill and Kenny Sebastian — Sketchy Behaviour — and Gully Boy: Live in Concert.

In other Prime news, the Hindi version of K.G.F: Chapter 1 will be available for streaming February 16.

Streaming Video News: November 24, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with three new properties from 2018. Along with the Telugu film Hello Guru Prema Kosame and the Zakir Khan stand-up comedy special Kaksha Gyarvi, director Vishal Bhardwaj’s rowdy comedy Pataakha is now available for streaming. Bhardwaj is great at world-building, and his tale of two feuding sisters is no exception. I enjoyed it.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with one expiration date and one premiere date. The fantastic crime drama Talvar leaves the streaming service on December 1 (so catch it quick, and then listen to the episode of the Split Screen Podcast in which Shah Shahid and I compare it to Rahasya, which is also currently on Netflix). The Netflix original cricket series Selection Day debuts on December 28. Its trailer is kinda intense:

Streaming Video News: September 24, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a few upcoming expiration dates. Akira, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, and the Assamese movie Kothanodi all leave Netflix on October 1, 2018. M.S. Dhoni was just okay, and Akira — aka Naam Hai Akira — was awful, so their departure isn’t a devastating loss.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with several new titles, including the improv comedy special Go Straight Take Left and the 2018 Hindi release Nawabzaade, starring ABCD‘s Dharmesh Yelande and Punit Pathak.

Streaming Video News: September 14, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of recently added titles. In addition to a dozen older Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu titles, several 2018 releases are now available for streaming: Bus Stop (Marathi), Shaadi Teri Bajayenge Hum Band (Hindi), Uma (Bengali), and the Telugu films Goodachari and Srinavasa Kalyanam. The comedy special Improv All Stars: Game Night is also available, as is the English-language, Bollywood-inspired musical Basmati Blues, which is all kinds of problematic.

Amazon released the teaser for the new dating show Hear Me Love Me, hosted by Shilpa Shetty. It premieres September 28:

One bit of Netflix news is that, after a one-day absence, PK is available for streaming again.

Streaming Video News: August 7, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because Chennai Express is available for streaming again.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the additions of 2015’s Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein, the Telugu film Shankar Dada M.B.B.S., the Tamil movies Billa and Rowdy Kottai, and the Hindi comedy specials  Best of K Se Comedy and Best of Waiting Lounge. Streaming Video News: August 3, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with more new additions to the catalog. Besides the previously announced arrival of the Netflix original film Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!, 2 States and Baaghi showed up as well today — something of a surprise after yesterday’s massive infusion of new Bollywood titles into the catalog. 2 States is legitimately good, and Baaghi is unintentionally hilarious. It was one of the two movies I picked to discuss with Erin and Matt when they invited me to appear on the Bollywood Is For Lovers podcast.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two new additions. Comedian Sorabh Pant’s second stand-up special — Make India Great Again — is now available for streaming, as is the 2017 Tamil movie Maayavan.
