Streaming Video News: April 10, 2025

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with today’s world premiere of the Hindi horror flick Chhorii 2. This is a true sequel to 2021’s Chhorii, which I really enjoyed. Amazon Prime also announced an April 24 streaming debut for the great film Superboys of Malegaon.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Hulu with today’s debut of Season 6 of the Hindi animated series The Legend of Hanuman (also available in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu). Hulu randomly added the 1994 Hindi film Dulara earlier this week.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a trio of newly added theatrical releases: Chhaava (Hindi), Court: State vs a Nobody (Telugu), and Perusu (Tamil).

The BIG Netflix news is that 3 dozen movies from UTV Motion Pictures are set to expire on April 30. A mass UTV exodus happened before in 2022, and while most of the films that expired returned after a month or two, some didn’t come back — and a lot of those movies aren’t streaming anywhere in the United States. If there’s something on this list that you really want to watch (or re-watch), best to prioritize it, just in case. Here’s what’s leaving Netflix at the end of this month:

Opening April 10: Broken Horses

While no new Hindi movies are opening in the Chicago area on April 10, 2015, we are getting a new film by a Bollywood director. Vidhu Vinod Chopra — director of Eklavya: The Royal Guard and producer of PK — makes his Hollywood directorial debut with Broken Horses, starring Anton Yelchin, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Thomas Jane.

Broken Horses opens on Friday in three local theaters: AMC River East 21 in Chicago, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. Tellingly, these are all theaters that regularly carry Bollywood movies, so don’t expect this to be a wide, 600+ screen release. Even without a wide national release or huge marketing campaign, Broken Horses could appeal to moviegoers who are undecided on what to see when they head to the theater, thanks to its easy sales pitch: “It’s about brothers involved in a drug war, and it stars Vincent D’Onofrio and the guy who plays Chekov in the new Star Trek movies.”

After a great first weekend, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! gets a second week at the South Barrington 30, Cantera 17, and AMC Showplace Niles 12 in Niles.

Other Indian movies showing in the Chicago area this weekend include Son of Satyamurthy (Telugu) at the Muvico Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodridge, and MovieMax, which also carries the Malayalam film Oru Vadakkan Selfie.

Streaming Video News: April 10, 2013

Today marks the Netflix streaming debut of Race 2, which opened in theaters on January 25, 2013. It’s a follow-up to 2008’s Race, which is also available for streaming on Netflix. A familiarity with the first film helps to explain some of the relationships in the second, but it’s not essential to understanding the plot of Race 2. I wasn’t a fan of either movie, but if you’re in the mood for mindless action, Race and Race 2 might fit the bill.

Also on April 10, the bizarre Hindi monster movie Hisss exits the Netflix streaming catalog. The film was plagued with problems throughout the production, and they are obvious in the final product. It will not be missed.

In other video news, Dabangg 2 makes its streaming debut on Eros Now on Friday, April 12 (though not in India). Dabangg 2 is available free to subscribers or as a premium rental for $1.99. 2010’s Dabangg is already available for streaming on the service.
