In Theaters: April 27, 2018

No new Hindi movies release in Chicago area theaters the weekend beginning April 27, 2018, which is just as well since every bit of available screenspace is seemingly allotted to Avengers: Infinity War. Beyond the Clouds gets a second week at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles and the AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, which also holds over October, Baaghi 2, and Blackmail.

Opening April 20: Beyond the Clouds

The touching family drama Beyond the Clouds hits Chicago area theaters on April 20, 2018.

Beyond the Clouds opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles and AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington. It has a runtime of 2 hours.

October gets a second week at both of the above theaters, plus the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, AMC Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville.

Baaghi 2 and Hichki carry over at MovieMax and the South Barrington 24, which also holds over Blackmail.

Opening April 13: October and Mercury

Two new Bollywood films hit Chicago area theaters on April 13, 2018. First up is the romantic drama October, starring Varun Dhawan.

October opens Friday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, AMC Showplace Naperville 16 in Naperville, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. It has a listed runtime of 1 hr. 45 min.

Also new this week is Mercury, which has no dialogue at all. Prabhu Deva stars in this silent thriller.

Preview shows of Mercury start Thursday night at MovieMax, Century Stratford Square in Bloomingdale, and Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodridge. It has a listed runtime of 1 hr. 48 min.

Baaghi 2 carries over at MovieMax, Marcus Addison, and South Barrington 24, which also holds over Hichki, Raid, and Blackmail.

In Theaters: January 19, 2018

No new Hindi films open in the Chicago area on Friday, January 19, 2018, making way for next weekend’s double feature. MovieMax Cinemas in Niles carries over 1921, and the AMC South Barrington 24 gives a second week to Mukkabaaz. Both theaters hold on to Tiger Zinda Hai for a fifth weekend.

Opening January 12: 1921 and Mukkabaaz

Two new Hindi films open in Chicago on January 12, 2018, albeit in very small release. The horror sequel 1921 gets the bigger theatrical footprint, opening in MovieMax Cinemas in Niles and AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington.

Also hitting the South Barrington 24 on Friday is director Anurag Kashyap’s boxing drama Mukkabaaz, which has a runtime of 2 hrs. 25 min.

Tiger Zinda Hai gets a fourth weekend at MovieMax and the South Barrington 24.

With no new Hindi films hitting local screens for at least another week, Tiger Zinda Hai gets a third weekend in seven Chicago area theaters: Regal Round Lake Beach Stadium 18 in Round Lake Beach, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC Dine-In Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge.

The big news is the impending release of the English-subtitled Telugu movie Agnyaathavaasi – Prince in Exile, which debuts on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. It’s set to release in sixteen Chicago area theaters — more theaters than carried Baahubali 2! Opening December 22: Tiger Zinda Hai

Tiger Zinda Hai — the sequel to 2012’s spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger and the last big Bollywood release of the year — hits Chicago area theaters on December 22, 2017. It’s releasing in 300 theaters across North America.

Tiger Zinda Hai opens on Friday in nine local theaters: AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Round Lake Beach Stadium 18 in Round Lake Beach, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC Dine-In Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge, and AMC Loews Crestwood 18 in Crestwood. The Marcus Addison wins the award for Earliest Showtime, with its first showing of Tiger Zinda Hai starting at 8:50 a.m.! The film has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 45 min.

Fukrey Returns gets a third week at MovieMax and the South Barrington 24.

The comedy sequel Fukrey Returns hits Chicago area theaters on December 8, 2017. I didn’t like Fukrey, but Richa Chadda and Ali Fazal are cool, so you never know.

Fukrey Returns opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 11 min.

All three of the above theaters carry over Firangi and Tumhari Sulu. The AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodrige gives an eighth week to Secret Superstar.

Kapil Sharma jumps into the spot vacated by Padmavati, releasing his period comedy Firangi (“Foreigner“) in Chicago area theaters on December 1, 2017.

Firangi opens on Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 1 hr. 38 min.

All three of the above theaters hold over Tumhari Sulu for a third week. Secret Superstar carries over at the AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodrige and MovieMax, which also holds on to Golmaal Again.
