I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, one of my favorite Hindi films of the year so far. If you’ve already finished Sacred Games, you need to check out Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, since Vikramaditya Motwane directed both.

The big news from Amazon today — and no, it’s not the addition of the Hindi-dubbed version of the 2014 Tamil film Sooran to Prime — is that the online retailer is in the running to buy the Landmark theater chain. It’s an interesting proposition, and not unexpected, since Netflix has also explored buying physical theaters as a way to showcase their original productions.

I’m not sure that the purchase would have any effect on Amazon’s Indian content, since they’re currently only producing original series and comedy specials, not one-off movies. Landmark has theaters in just fifty locations, so even if Amazon wanted to make joint deals for both streaming and distribution, the chain could only accommodate smaller releases like Pari, Missing, or Blackmail. Then again, this could open up new venues for movies that would otherwise bypass American theaters and head straight to streaming, such as Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain, Hate Story 4, or Vodka Diaries. Even then, Landmark’s theaters are in fixed locations that may not be near the population that regularly watches Indian films, which means reaching out to a brand new demographic — something I’d like to see happen, but that may not make much business sense.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with several new additions to the catalog. The 2015 Marathi anthology film Bioscope is now available, as is the 2017 biography series The Creative Indians, with episodes profiling Anurag Kashyap and A. R. Rahman (more on him later). Also new are the movies What’s Your Raashee? (ack!) and Ali Fazal’s For Here or to Go?, which I enjoyed. For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the new series Harmony with A. R. Rahman, in which the composer explores traditional musical styles from across India. In other Amazon news, Race 3 comes to Prime on August 22. (Insert your own “business” joke here.)

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with one new addition to the catalog. After a brief theatrical run in the spring, Beyond the Clouds is now available for streaming. I found the story compelling, and the camerawork in the opening sequence is fantastic. For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

Some premiere dates I’m keeping an eye on in the next week include the Tamil film Kadaikutty Singam on August 13 and the music documentary Harmony with A.R. Rahman on August 15 over on Amazon Prime, followed by Bhavesh Joshi Superhero on August 16 on Netflix. There’s a chance the Amazon Prime dates are for India only, which is why I’ve not included them on my Amazon Prime streaming list. If they are worldwide release dates, I’ll post links to the movies as soon as they are available. Have a great weekend!

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix because Chennai Express is available for streaming again.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the additions of 2015’s Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein, the Telugu film Shankar Dada M.B.B.S., the Tamil movies Billa and Rowdy Kottai, and the Hindi comedy specials  Best of K Se Comedy and Best of Waiting Lounge. I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with more new additions to the catalog. Besides the previously announced arrival of the Netflix original film Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!, 2 States and Baaghi showed up as well today — something of a surprise after yesterday’s massive infusion of new Bollywood titles into the catalog. 2 States is legitimately good, and Baaghi is unintentionally hilarious. It was one of the two movies I picked to discuss with Erin and Matt when they invited me to appear on the Bollywood Is For Lovers podcast.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two new additions. Comedian Sorabh Pant’s second stand-up special — Make India Great Again — is now available for streaming, as is the 2017 Tamil movie Maayavan.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with twenty-two new additions to the catalog! About half of these titles were on Netflix years ago, but the rest — films like Highway, Mohenjo Daro, and PK — are available on the service for the first time. I’m excited that three more of director Vishal Bhardwaj’s movies have joined the catalog. Here are all the titles added today:

In other Netflix news, the streaming service announced that it’s begun work on a Baahubali prequel series based on Anand Neelakantan’s book The Rise of Sivagami. Woo hoo!

Streaming Video News: August 1, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with more than a dozen new additions to the catalog. Ten of those films are Malayalam flicks from the last year or so, as well as the 2015 Hindi movie P Se PM Tak and the cartoon Mahabharat. I’m especially excited that Tikli and Laxmi Bomb is finally available for streaming. It had been on the festival circuit for the last year, and it’s really thought-provoking. I recommend it.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with ten new Indian films. The 2018 Tamil theatrical release Thaanaa Serndha Koottam is now available for streaming, along with six Telugu movies, and the Bollywood flicks Amit Sahni Ki List, Main Aisa Hi Hoon, and 8×10 Tasveer (which is not very good).

Streaming Video News: July 25, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with an exciting new addition to the catalog. Two months after its theatrical release, John Abraham’s historical military drama Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is now available for streaming. Other updates to my page include August 1st expiration dates for Ghayal Once Again (good riddance) and Saala Khadoos (aw, shucks) and an August 3rd debut date for the Netflix original Hindi movie Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of the Punjabi flick Ronde Sare Vyah Picho and the Telugu films Anjaneyulu and Jagadam. Also, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is back a brief disappearance. For everything else new on Prime and Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

Streaming Video News: July 17, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with one new addition to the catalog and a couple of “Coming Soon” announcements. First, the Hindi-dubbed version of the 2008 Telugu movie Krishnarjuna is now available for streaming (with ads if you don’t have a Prime membership). More importantly, Rajinikanth’s Kaala comes to Prime in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam on July 27. The series Comicstaan announced the release dates for its remaining five episodes. Most intriguing of all is the teaser for the original series Mirzapur, produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment (who also did the series Inside Edge for Amazon). There’s no date set for Mirzapur‘s debut, but here’s a little something to pique your interest:

One other bit of news is that Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is coming to Netflix on July 31, 2018. I really liked this movie, and I can’t wait for more people to get the chance to check it out.

Streaming Video News: July 16, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a terrific new addition to the catalog. Alia Bhatt’s spy drama Raazi is now available for streaming, two months after its theatrical release. It’s my favorite Hindi film of the year so far.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with one new addition: 2008’s Tahaan, starring Anupam Kher, Rahul Bose, and Dangal‘s Fatima Sana Shaikh. For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.
