I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of new seasons of a couple of Hindi cartoons for kids: Prince Jai Aur Dumdaar Viru and Sab Jholmaal Hai.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with several new additions, including Anushka Sharma’s horror movie Pari, which released into theaters on March 2. Other new offerings include the Hindi films Accident on Hill Road, Deadline: Sirf 24 Ghante, Dehraadun Diary, Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye, and Rudraksh. I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two new additions to the catalog. Amitabh & Rekha’s 1977 film Alaap is now available for streaming, as is Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Prime now has two 2018 theatrical releases — SKTKS and Padmaavat — in its catalog, while Netflix has none (although it is the exclusive home of Love Per Square Foot). Oh, and Eros Now has Mukkabaaz.

We’re approaching the time of year when we can expect to see 2018 theatrical releases show up on streaming services more regularly. On May 26 of last year, Netflix added Raees, and Amazon’s Heera (R.I.P.) added Commando 2. Two more 2017 titles showed up in June before things really picked up in July. If there’s a movie you missed seeing in the theater earlier this year, you may not have to wait much longer before you can watch it from the comfort of home.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with an interesting assortment of new additions to the catalog. The insightful drama Waiting is now available for streaming, as are Gurgaon and the disappointing 2017 romance Running Shaadi. Also new is Onaatah, the first Netflix’s first Khasi-language movie. Here are today’s other newly added flicks:

Perhaps the most compelling additions are four TV shows that just started airing on the cable channel Discovery Jeet within the last few months: Anjaan: Special Crimes Unit, Khan No. 1, Mere Papa Hero Hiralal, and Swami Baba Ramdev: The Untold Story. It’s pretty cool to be able to catch up on episodes so soon after their Indian debuts. For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of recent additions to the catalog. The new batch includes a few Tamil and Marathi films and some Hindi-dubbed titles, but most are Hindi movies. I’ve only seen a few of them, including Aakrosh (which I found really accessible for an international audience), Kidnap (which had its moments), and Jail (which stunk). Here are the rest of the new Hindi films (for all other titles, check the “Newly Added” section at the top of my Amazon Prime page):

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix to include the surprise addition of three older Shah Rukh Khan movies: Main Hoon Na, Paheli, and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with six more contributions from Shemaroo Entertainment. New additions include the 1989 Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla romance Love Love Love, the Raveena Tandon films Ghulam-E-Musthafa and Satta, plus two more recent releases: Bollywood Diaries and Jigariyaa. I’m most intrigued by the comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, starring Naseeruddin Shah (click the CC button in the video below for English subtitles). Streaming Video News: April 11, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with almost three dozen additions to the streaming catalog (everything above Bumm Bumm Bole under the “Newly Added” section of the page). Just the other day I had a Twitter conversation about Shemaroo Entertainment making some of their titles available on Prime, and they went ahead and added even more movies, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Yeh Lamhe Juddai Ke and the meh 2011 romantic comedy Tere Mere Phere. Tiger Zinda Hai is now available, too, in both regular High Definition and Ultra High Definition (UHD).

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix to include The Tiger Hunter, which stars Danny Pudi as an Indian immigrant building a life in Chicago in the 1970s. The movie played at a number of film festivals in 2016, including the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. IFFLA 2018 starts today, and you can view the lineup here. If you can’t make it out to LA for the fest, the Hindi Titus Andronicus adaptation The Hungry is available on Amazon Prime.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime because Tiger Zinda Hai is now available for streaming. Katrina Kaif has some stellar action scenes in this sequel from late last year.

While I’ve been on hiatus, Amazon also added Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana to the Prime catalog. Netflix made a bunch of new additions as well, including the entertaining 2017 remake Ittefaq and the superhit Om Shanti Om. Check the “Newly Added” section at the top of my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix to see what other titles have joined the streaming service within the last month.

Have a great weekend!

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with an exciting new addition to the catalog. Secret Superstar — one of my favorite films of last year — is now available for streaming! It does a wonderful job of thoughtfully addressing a heavy subject while balancing it with hope and laughter. This is a good one to share with folks who aren’t regular Bollywood watchers.

Yesterday, I updated my Amazon Prime streaming list with the Tamil films Megha and Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalivaanikalum, as well as the Hindi-dubbed movies Ek Aur Hero the Dashing, Meri Pukar, and Nepali the Warrior. Streaming Video News: March 19, 2018

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with some recent additions to the catalog. Here are the films added within the last week (movies are Hindi- or English-language, unless specified):

I also found a couple dozen other Indian films added since Heera’s demise early in January. I may have missed them previously because I usually filter my Instant Watcher queries to exclude movies for which I can’t find IMDb entries–to help get rid of the clutter in Amazon’s catalog (e.g., low-budget workout videos, virtual fireplace videos, oddball content for kids, etc.). This filter also blocked me from seeing some legitimate movies. The films I missed fell into two categories. First, these are movies in their original languages:

In the second category, these are all of the Hindi-dubbed versions of South Indian movies that were added:

Since Heera closed down, the majority of the Indian movies to join the catalog are Hindi-dubs of South Indian films, many of which are free to watch ad-supported without a Prime subscription and almost all of which are already available on YouTube. Excluding the incorporation of Heera’s collection into the Prime catalog, Amazon hasn’t added a recent, mainstream Bollywood film or high-profile South Indian movie since Bank Chor on December 21, 2017.

[Let’s pause to remember when Heera added Chef one month after its theatrical release. Those were good times.]

Frankly, this is what I was afraid of when Heera shut down. When Amazon snapped up the streaming rights to tons of Bollywood movies last year, it was in an effort to woo new customers in India. Heera was an attempt to monetize the newly acquired content in the United States, and when it didn’t work, maybe Amazon decided not to bother hosting it at all (especially if it saves them money somehow–I don’t know how their contracts work). Since most households in the US already subscribe to Prime, the company has no incentive to give them something essentially for free.

Instead, we get more of the same free stuff you can already find on YouTube. It’s frustrating.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with seventeen new additions to the catalog (well, sixteen if you discount OK Kanmani, which is available again after a hiatus).

The new additions include the English-language drama Mango Dreams, the documentary Martyrs of Marriage, seven Marathi films, four Malayalam movies, two Bengali flicks, and one other Tamil title besides OK Kanmani. Curiously, four of the Marathi films — Chal Dhar Pakad, Irada Pakka, Lalbaug Parel, and Ranbhool — are also currently available on Amazon Prime, though their addition to Netflix makes me wonder if that’s about to change. (For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.)

Speaking of Amazon Prime, while no new movies were officially added today, my digging unearthed three more Tamil films that hadn’t previously appeared in any of my searches: Ethir Neechal, Kuraoindrumillai, and Political Khiladi, the Hindi-dubbed version of Ko 2. I added them to my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime.

Another bit of good news is that Amazon updated the interface of “Your Watchlist” to allow users to sort titles in their list alphabetically, A-Z or Z-A. The alphabetical sorting option replaces a “Featured” sorting method governed by an Amazon algorithm. (It wasn’t a function that I ever used, so I may be misremembering the exact name.) Both new options and the existing “Most Recent Addition” sort function work within consistent parameters — alphabetically and chronologically — making it much easier to find desired titles, rather than sorting via an algorithmic popularity contest, the rules of which only Amazon understands. It’s a welcome step toward a more consumer-friendly user interface.
