Opening October 25 and 26: Baazaar and 5 Weddings

Chicago area Bollywood fans get two new films to choose from the weekend beginning October 26, 2018. Saif Ali Khan’s Wall Street-esque thriller Baazaar gets a head start, opening in local theaters on October 25.

Baazaar opens Thursday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 24 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 20 min.

On Friday, the English-language, American-produced romantic comedy 5 Weddings — starring Rajkummar Rao and Nargis Fakhri — opens at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago. It has a listed runtime of 1 hr. 30 min.

After a great opening weekend, Badhaai Ho carries over at MovieMax, South Barrington 24, and Cantera 17 and expands to the AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. Andhadhun carries over at MovieMax and the South Barrington 24, which also holds onto Namaste England a second week.

Opening October 26: Ajab Gazabb Love

Two days after the opening of Chakravyuh, the Hindi romantic comedy Ajab Gazabb Love hits Chicago area theaters.

Ajab Gazabb Love opens on Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles and AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington. It has a listed runtime of 1 hr. 59 min.

Chakravyuh continues the run it began on Wednesday at both of the above theaters, as well as the AMC River East 21 in Chicago and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. Its runtime is listed as 2 hrs. 32 min.

After collecting $326,508 in its opening weekend in the U.S., Student of the Year gets a second week at all four of the theaters mentioned above. English Vinglish — with U.S. earnings of $1,670,773 so far — gets a fourth week at the Cantera 17 and South Barrington 30, which is also holding over OMG Oh My God for a fifth week.

Last weekend’s other new release, Delhi Safari, failed to earn a second week in theaters. After six weeks, Barfi! finally vacates area screens, with total U.S. earnings standing at $2,799,445.

Other Indian movies playing at the Golf Glen 5 this weekend include Trivandrum Lodge (Malayalam) and the Telugu films Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu and Dhenikaina Ready.

Opening October 26: RA.One

As far as Bollywood movies are concerned, there’s only one game in town this week: RA.One. Shahrukh Khan’s 3D superhero epic — the most expensive Indian movie yet, with a price tag of nearly US$40 million — opens in the Chicago area on October 26, 2011.

RA.One opens on Wednesday in both 2D and 3D at the AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. If you just can’t wait to see it, the South Barrington 30 is holding a midnight showing late Tuesday night.

The Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles doesn’t specify if it will carry the 3D version of RA.One, but it will be showing the film in its original Hindi, plus versions dubbed into Tamil and Telugu, all starting on Wednesday as well. The AMC Ford City 14 and AMC Loews 600 North Michigan 9 — both in Chicago — are carrying the 2D version of RA.One, which has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 36 min. If you’re not interested in RA.One, the Golf Glen 5 is also carrying, as of Wednesday, Velayutham (Tamil), 7aum Arivu (Tamil), and the latter’s Telugu-dubbed version, The 7th Sense.
