I went to see Zero on Friday with six other people. All of us have been watching Bollywood movies for at least 6 years or more. The high school student liked it. Normally she prefers action films. The female college student was not impressed. The early twenties male thought it was interesting. My husband wasn’t impressed. He thought Thugs was better. We went with an older couple. She liked it, but much of the movie was filmed in her hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. The older man was of the opinion, like me, Thugs was better.

The acting of SRK, Anushka, and Katrina was very good. Anushka should win some award for her acting. Mohammed as Bauua’s friend and Abhay as the e-boyfriend did really well. It failed at the story line. Honestly, I almost fell asleep for a while. SRK’s character is a real jerk in the first half. He decides what he wants and changes in the second half. I wasn’t rooting for Bauua and Aafia to get together. I just wanted it to end. I won’t give away a spoiler, but what happened to a character in the second half? That wasn’t resolved and should have been.

The scenes in the US were mostly shot in Huntsville, Alabama. The wedding scene was shot at the Botanical Gardens. The outdoor restaurant scene was shot in an area called Providence. The museum is the US Space and Rocket Center. The rockets really are that big. No CGI there. They added some elevators that don’t really exist but the rockets outdoors and inside are real, other than the launch. They really have a lake for training the kids at Space Camp.

So, I’m looking forward to buying Thugs on DVD. If I didn’t know someone in Zero, I wouldn’t buy the movie on DVD. Zero wasn’t as bad as “When Harry met Sejal” or “Dear Zindagi” but not much better in my opinion.

Thanks so much for all the scoop on where ZERO was filmed, Jill! And I think you summed up the movie’s single biggest problem: “SRK’s character is a real jerk in the first half.” My review is stalled until after Christmas, but that’s pretty much the gist of it. 😉
