I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with some recent deletions from the streaming catalog. Yesterday, fourteen Hindi films expired from Netflix — a substantial amount given that there were only 94 titles available to begin with. Here’s the list of films no longer available for streaming:
- Chandni (1989)
- Chup Chup Ke (2006)
- Darr (1993)
- Ek Tha Tiger (2012) — ★★½
- Fashion (2008) — ★★½
- Guzaarish (2010) — ★★★½
- I Hate Luv Storys (2010) — ★★½
- Kismat Konnection (2008) — ★★★½
- Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011) — ★★½
- Raajneeti (2010) — ★★★½
- Race (2008) — ★½
- Rang De Basanti (2006) — ★★★½
- Swades (2004) — ★★★★
- We Are Family (2010) — ★★★

I was absolutely shocked at the number of Hindi films pulled in the last couple of weeks. Half the movies were on my watch list. I settled in to watch Swades the other night and…poof, vanished. Once I started going through, I realized that many more titles had disappeared as well. Thanks for the list, I was having trouble remembering exactly which movies had been taken away. Now, I am in a mad rush to watch as many movies from my list as I can this week! I certainly hope that they replace the expired ones with other Hindi films. Netflix selection of Bollywood films, while limited, is one of the main reasons I subscribe to the service.
These purges happen about once a year, Ryan, so don’t be too worried. 🙂 Netflix sometimes buys movies in bundles (rather than individual titles), and this was likely one of those cases where all the movie’s contracts expired at the same time. If it helps you prioritize, contracts last for at least a year, so anything added recently should be around for a while. Still, losing Swades was a heartbreaker.
