Opening June 3: Ready

Last week, I wrote about my concerns over the future of Bollywood movies at the Cantera theater in Warrenville. Appropriately, action superhero Salman Khan came to my rescue. Khan’s romantic comedy, Ready, opens on June 3, 2011, in three Chicago area theaters, including the Cantera.

Ready opens on Friday at the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 & RPX in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 37 min.

This weekend, the Golf Glen 5 will also carry the Telugu movies 100% Love, Rangam and Veera.

In Theaters May 20, 2011

The only Bollywood movie on offer anywhere in the Chicago area this weekend is Dum Maaro Dum at the AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington. The crime drama has earned $551,398 in its first four weeks in U.S. theaters.

Starting Friday, the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles features Bicycle Bride, an English-language movie about an Indian-American girl who defies her mother to choose her own romantic destiny.

Other Indian movies playing at the Golf Glen 5 this weekend include 100% Love (Telugu), Manikya Kallu (Malayalam), Moner Manush (Bengali), Rangam (Telugu) and Veera (Telugu).

Opening May 13: Love U…Mr. Kalakaar!

A romance with an oddly punctuated title — Love U…Mr. Kalakaar! — is the only new Hindi movie opening in the Chicago area on Friday, May 13, 2011.

Love U…Mr. Kalakaar! opens today at the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles and the AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 35 min.

Older Bollywood flicks carrying over at theaters include Haunted at the Golf Glen 5 and Dum Maaro Dum at the South Barrington 30. Dum Maaro Dum earned $534,574 in its first three weeks in U.S. theaters.

The Golf Glen 5 is showing several other Indian movies this weekend, including 100% Love (Telugu), Chinatown (Malayalam), Engeyum Kaadhal (Tamil), Gaddama (Malayalam) and Rangam (Telugu).

Opening May 6: Haunted

India’s first stereoscopic 3D horror film, Haunted, hits Chicago area theaters on Friday, May 6, 2011. Like Avatar, Haunted was filmed using 3D technology, not converted from 2D in post-production. The story is about a young man’s love for one of the ghostly inhabitants of a haunted house.

Haunted opens on Friday at the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles and the AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 23 min.

Dum Maaro Dum gets a third week at the South Barrington 30, having earned $483,988 in U.S. theaters so far. Last weekend’s new release, Chalo Dilli, won’t be carried over for a second week.

Other Indian movies playing near Chicago this weekend include 100% Love (Telugu), Chinatown (Malayalam), Engeyum Kadhal (Tamil) and Nenu Naa Rakshashi (Telugu) at the Golf Glen 5.
