Opening June 1: Rowdy Rathore

The Akshay Kumar action flick Rowdy Rathore is the only new Hindi movie opening in Chicago area theaters the weekend beginning June 1, 2012.

Rowdy Rathore opens on Friday in four area theaters: Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a runtime of 2 hrs. 19 min. Read my review of Rowdy Rathore here.

Kumar’s star power clears all other Hindi films from local screens, including last week’s new releases Married 2 America and Arjun: The Warrior Prince. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Arjun only managed to earn $5,527 total from ten U.S. theaters. I don’t have the box office numbers for Married 2 America, but I’d be surprised if it fared much better.

Other Indian movies playing at the Golf Glen 5 this weekend include the Telugu films Adhinayakudu, Daruvu, and Gabbar Singh, as well as The King and the Commissioner (Malayalam).

Looks like this movie will work at the box office. I am not reviewing this for my magazine. Not going to watch it personally either as I am not interested. But would like to read your take on it.

    Cheers 🙂

Hi, Keyur. I didn’t discover Hindi movies until after Akshay Kumar stopped doing action roles, so I am a little curious to see what he does with a character type I associate more with Salman Khan. I’m cautiously optimistic. 🙂

Ohh that’s interesting 🙂 I would be pleased if it turns out to be good. By the way, I just realized and you won’t believe, I haven’t seen a Salman Khan movie in theatre since many years 😀 But Ek Tha Tiger will surely break that hiatus 🙂

        Cheers 🙂

Hey Kathy. I liked your review for RR!!As for Akshay’s action roles, he was good at action with the khiladi series of movies giving him the brand of action hero. Most of his movies then packed good suspense drama with Akshay doing his own stunts. I would recommend Khakee, its one of the better action/thriller movies he has made..

Thanks for the recommendation, Sandy! I bought Khakee on DVD years ago but never got around to watching it. Now I’ll have to.
