Opening May 11: Dangerous Ishhq

The romantic thriller Dangerous Ishhq — starring Karisma Kapoor — is the only new Hindi movie opening in Chicago area theaters on May 11, 2012.

Dangerous Ishhq opens on Friday at the Big Cinemas Golf Glen 5 in Niles and AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington. It has a runtime of 2 hrs. 30 min.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel — a British movie I reviewed last week — expands the number of theaters showing it on Friday as well, after earning $737,051 from just 27 theaters during its first week in the U.S.

Last weekend’s new Hindi release, Jannat 2, gets a second week at the South Barrington 30, while Vicky Donor gets a fourth week at the South Barrington 30 and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. Its U.S. earnings total $466,467, driven by good word of mouth. Compare that to Tezz, which leaves area theaters after two weeks, having earned just $218,622 despite showing in twice as many U.S. theaters as Vicky Donor.

Other Indian movies showing at the Golf Glen 5 this weekend include Gabbar Singh (Telugu), Kalakalappu (Tamil), Masters (Malayalam), and Taur Mitran Di (Punjabi).

Though it’s only releasing theatrically in India on Friday, U.S. fans will be able to watch the new Hindi film The Forest on the subscription video-streaming service Mela the same day. The film about a married couple terrorized by a man-eating leopard is made by Oscar-nominated director Ashvin Kumar.

No review of jannat 2?? Anyway not a good movie. Same old story like jannat 1. Only difference is the crime he is committing. in the first movie he was involved in betting in cricket games in the 2nd movie he is an arms dealer.

Now I’m really in no hurry to see Jannat 2, TS! It’s been showing at strange times at a theater that is about 45 minutes away from my house, so there hasn’t been a good time for me to get up there to see it. (By comparison, the theater where I watch most of the Bollywood movies I review is only 5 minutes away.)

I haven’t see the trailer for Department yet. Rowdy Rathore looks like a Salman Khan movie, but starring Akshay Kumar. I’m cautiously optimistic about it.

akshay used to these kind of action movies earlier later switched to comedy. Good to see him back in action. N both the movies specially department contains vulgar songs with vulgar dances. Now i think in bollywood it is now mandatory to have such songs. Almost all the movies have such songs which they call item number.

    Hi Kathy!
I saw Dangerous Ishq. Since I reviewed this film for the magazine I write, I am not allowed to post it on my blog.

All I can say is that the film is unintentionally humorous! The situations and dialogues are so silly that you will laugh after almost every few seconds. Just can’t believe Karisma chose this movie for a comeback!!!

By the way, I liked Jannat 2. Talking about promos, the one of EK Tha Tiger is wonderful! Looking forward to Department.

    Cheers,

    Keyur 🙂

I was planning on seeing Dangerous Ishhq on Tuesday, but now I’m reconsidering. Since Department is certain to open at the theater near my house next Friday (as opposed to showing at the theater 45 minutes away, as Dangerous Ishhq is), I may skip Karisma’s comeback film. As for Ek Tha Tiger, a Salman Khan film with a Yash Raj budget is a promising combination.

    Kathy,

There is a show called “The Front Row with Anupama Chopra” which airs in India every Friday night. Anupama Chopra is an author, journalist and film critic. In this weeks show, apart from reviewing movies Ishaqzaade, Dangerous Ishhq and Dark Shadows she also discusses about the role of women in Bollywood in these times with Zoya Akhtar, Kangna Ranaut and Milan Luthria. Interesting insights i must say. Here goes the episode link http://thefrontrow.starworld.in/full.html
    Watch it if you can.

    PS:The show is in English
