I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which is available in the following languages: Kannada/4K UHD, Malayalam/4K UHD, Tamil/4K UHD, and Telugu/4K UHD. The Hindi version should become available next week. Other recently added 2019 releases include Doorbeen (Punjabi), Mafi Dona (Malayalam), and the Hindi-dubbed version of the Malayalam movie Mikhael. In other Amazon Prime news, most of the Excel Entertainment back catalog is set to expire by the end of this month. Unlike the recent departures of movies from Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions, I’m not sure that this exodus is permanent. Excel has new seasons of Inside Edge and Mirzapur coming to Amazon in the next few months, and I haven’t found any news stories about them striking a deal with another streamer. Still, if you have any of their titles in your Watchlist, you might want to watch them in the next week. Excel’s fantastic debut production, Dil Chahta Hai, expires on November 27, followed by these other titles on November 28:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with four 2019 titles added in the last week, including the new Netflix original series Bard of Blood, starring Emraan Hashmi. Also new are the Hindi film Malaal, the Telugu sequel Manmadhudu 2, and the Malayalam and Tamil versions of Oh! Baby (the Telugu version was added last week).

Sixteen Indian movies are set to expire from Netflix on October 1 — mostly Malayalam titles, but the service’s lone Manipuri film, Loktak Lairembee, is on its way out as well. The full list of expiring titles is available here.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with more than forty Indian titles added since my last streaming video update. One of those new films is Sonakshi Sinha’s August comedy Khadaani Shafakhana, which contains homophobic slurs. Other recently added 2019 releases include:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with the addition of Shah Rukh Khan’s 2018 debacle Zero. Now all of you who decided to skip seeing it in the theater can stream it and feel smart for not having wasted your money on tickets.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of dubbed films that were already on YouTube.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a couple of new additions to start the month of May. The 2019 Marathi film Sur Sapata and the 2018 Bengali movie Kia and Cosmos are now available for streaming. Other recent additions include the Malayalam film Njan Prakashan and the Hindi indies CRD and Teen Aur Aadha.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two new additions today: the 2019 Tamil film Pettakadai and the Hindi-dubbed version of 2016’s Kaashmora. Other 2019 releases recently added to Prime include:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with a bunch of new additions to the streaming catalog. Highlights among the recently added movies — which mostly consist of older Hindi and Telugu titles — include Village Rockstars, India’s submission to this year’s Oscars. The movie was originally filmed in Assamese, but Amazon’s version is dubbed in Hindi. Also new is the Richa Chadda & Neil Nitin Mukesh movie Ishqeria, which was filmed from 2012-2014 but didn’t release until September of last year. I’m also really excited because Andhadhun director Sriram Raghavan’s first film, Ek Hasina Thi, is finally available for streaming.

Amazon’s recent strategy — at least the one they’re allowing distributors to pursue — is to add about a dozen or so Indian movies to the catalog every day. It sounds cool, but it’s really easy to miss stuff if you take a few days off. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for you to visit Access Bollywood every day to see what’s new, but you shouldn’t be obligated. Adding movies in large batches on a regular schedule would give titles and consumers (and me, LOL!) room to breathe.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix. Netflix started the new year quietly, with the addition of three Tamil movies — Merku Thodarchi Malai, Puriyatha Puthir, and Taramani — and the original series Comedians of the World, featuring stand-up specials from Indian comics Atul Khatri, Aditi Mittal, and Amit Tandon.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with some HUGE news: the streaming service loses 25% of its Indian catalog in the next few days. 285 movies will expire between now and November 29. Most of the films on the way out are older Bengali, Tamil, and Hindi titles, including the whole NFDC catalog. Sadly, the purge wipes out Prime’s entire selection of Bhojpuri, Oriya, and Sanskrit movies.

One caveat is that Amazon’s expiration dates aren’t always as hard-and-fast as Netflix‘s expiration dates. It could be that Amazon’s dates simply indicate the end of existing contracts, with new contracts set to kick in the following day. But if any of the films below are in your Watchlist, better watch ’em while you can.

Update: It looks like this purge is really happening after all. I’m in the process of pulling the expired titles out of my main Prime list. The good news is that a lot of the older Hindi titles are still available on Eros Now (which you can try for free for 7 days through Amazon channels).

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with one new addition to the catalog and a couple of “Coming Soon” announcements. First, the Hindi-dubbed version of the 2008 Telugu movie Krishnarjuna is now available for streaming (with ads if you don’t have a Prime membership). More importantly, Rajinikanth’s Kaala comes to Prime in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam on July 27. The series Comicstaan announced the release dates for its remaining five episodes. Most intriguing of all is the teaser for the original series Mirzapur, produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment (who also did the series Inside Edge for Amazon). There’s no date set for Mirzapur‘s debut, but here’s a little something to pique your interest:

One other bit of news is that Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is coming to Netflix on July 31, 2018. I really liked this movie, and I can’t wait for more people to get the chance to check it out.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with four new titles. In addition to a pair of Hindi-dubbed films, two 2018 releases are now available to stream: the Kay Kay Menon murder mystery Vodka Diaries and the geriatric family comedy 102 Not Out, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor. I enjoyed 102 Not Out for its depiction of the challenges of aging and how it influences family dynamics.

Amazon’s push to increase its foothold in India has essentially turned Prime Day into a week-long event, with at least three more 2018 releases added to Prime in the coming days (Vodka Diaries was a nice surprise). We’re likely to see Sanjay Mishra’s Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain join the catalog on Thursday, followed by Raazi on Friday, and the Telugu movie Officer on Saturday. If you’re not a Prime member yet, this is a good week to start a free trial.

I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with a new premier date. The Netflix original horror series Ghoul — starring Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul — debuts on August 24, 2018. The trailer looks super scary:

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with two 2018 theatrical releases. Varun Dhawan’s October and Mahesh Babu’s Bharat Ane Nenu are now available for streaming. Other recent additions include Karthik Kumar’s standup comedy special Blood Chutney, the Kannada film Puta Tirugisi Nodi, the Hindi-dubbed flicks Mera Aakrosh and Shivam the Warrior, and the Tamil movies Engaeyum Eppothum, Naaigal Jaakirathai, and Pisasu. I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with one new addition to the catalog, just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend. The Hindi biographical drama Rang Rasiya is now available for streaming, although it’s listed in the Netflix catalog under its English title Colours of Passion. The screenshot below seems to indicate that Netflix itself isn’t sure what to call it.

Rang Rasiya started on the international festival circuit in 2008 before running afoul of the Indian censor board, which delayed its theatrical release until 2014. I remember my disappointment when it didn’t release in US theaters. I looked back through my posts to read what I wrote about it at the time, only to find this gem from 2011 that ruined my day:

As if the eight Indian films showing in Chicago area theaters this weekend weren’t enough to keep you busy, the second annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival opens tonight with a screening of 2008’s Rang Rasiya, followed by a Q & A session with the movie’s stars, Nandana Sen and Randeep Hooda. Actor Gulshan Grover, whose film I Am Kalam screens on Saturday, is also expected to be in attendance at the opening night gala.

RANDEEP WAS IN CHICAGO, AND I DIDN’T GO SEE HIM. BRB, gotta build a time machine so I can yell at myself for being a lazy dope.

Also worth noting are the ten Hindi TV shows and movies expiring from Netflix on June 1. It’s last call for the films Neerja, Jugni, Kajarya, and Rebellious Flower, and the shows Stories by Rabindranath Tagore, Dharmakshetra, Dariba Diaries, Kahi Suni, Raja Rasoi Aur Anya Kahaniyan, and Sanrachna. Of course Neerja is great (Jim Sarbh!), but I really enjoyed Jugni as well. Fans of Radhika Apte will want to check her out in Stories By Rabindranath Tagore while they can.
