I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian movies added in the last week. Amazon India is wrapping up its Prime Day promotions, with last of its big 2019 releases — the Marathi film Mogra Phulaalaa — due to join the streaming service on July 14. I’m surprised that Student of the Year 2 wasn’t ultimately part of the promotions, but it’ll make its way to Prime eventually. Besides the previously announced 2019 releases, several more were added to Prime in the last week:

Other recent notable additions include the classic comedy 3 Idiots, the lovely Bengali-English-Japanese film The Japanese Wife, and the hilarious documentary Meet the Patels, which became available on Prime the same day it expired from Netflix.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Heera with the addition of a couple of 2017 Hindi releases. Riteish Deshmukh’s Bank Chor is now available for streaming, as is The Hungry, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus that sounds pretty cool. After debuting in theaters just last month, the Tamil thriller Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru is also now available on Heera, as are the Bengali films 10th July, Ichchhemotir Gappo, Kalkijug, and Sesh Anka.

I also made a couple of updates to my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix. The Indian Detective — a mini-series starring comedian Russell Peters and Anupam Kher — is new to streaming, and the very funny documentary Meet the Patels is back on the service once more.

Finally, I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with the addition of the Hindi-dubbed version of the 2008 Telugu film Deepavali. For everything else new on Netflix and Amazon Prime — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with one new addition to the catalog. The hilarious documentary Meet the Patels is now available for streaming. Watching 30-year-old Ravi navigate the complicated Indian-American match-making system under pressure from his lovable parents is a real treat.

With the recent addition of several Indian documentaries to Netflix, I reorganized my page to include a section (appropriately titled) “Indian Documentaries on Netflix” just under the main “All Bollywood Movies Currently Streaming on Netflix” section. You can find Meet the Patels in the new “Documentaries” section.

A second straight weekend with no new Bollywood movies in Chicago area theaters. Here’s what carries over as of Friday, November 6, 2015:

The documentary Meet the Patels gets another week at the Wilmette Theatre in Wilmette.

Other Indian films playing in the Chicago area this weekend include Kanche (Telugu w/no subtitles) at Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodridge and MovieMax, which also carries Tripura (Telugu), Raju Gari Gadhi (Telugu), Pathemari (Malayalam), Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (Tamil), Amar Akbar Anthony (Malayalam), Ennu Ninte Moideen (Malayalam), and Life of Josutty (Malayalam). Note that several of these films only run through the weekend at MovieMax, due to a major schedule overhaul on Monday.

We’re entering a fallow period for Bollywood films here in the US, with nothing new likely to hit theaters until Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo opens on November 12. Just two Hindi films command space in Chicago area theaters the weekend beginning Friday, October 30, 2015.

The romantic comedy Shaandaar carries over for a second week at the Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, Regal Round Lake Beach 18 in Round Lake Beach, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 gets a third week at MovieMax and the South Barrington 30.

The hilarious documentary Meet the Patels sticks around at the Cantera 17 and Wilmette Theatre in Wilmette.

One of fall’s biggest Bollywood releases hits Chicago area theaters on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Director Vikas Bahl’s romantic comedy Shaandaar stars Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

Shaandaar opens on Thursday at the Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, Regal Round Lake Beach 18 in Round Lake Beach, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Marcus Addison Cinema in Addison, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 24 min.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 carries over at the Cantera 17 and South Barrington 30, which also holds over Jazbaa and Talvar.

Meet the Patels opens on Friday, October 23, at the Cantera 17 and carries over for another week at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago , Wilmette Theatre in Wilmette, and Regal Lincolnshire Stadium 21 in Lincolnshire.

Other Indian movies showing in the Chicago area this weekend include Kanche (Telugu) at Muvico Rosemont 18 in Rosemont and Cinemark at Seven Bridges in Woodridge, which also carries 10 Endrathukulla (Tamil), Bruce Lee – The Fighter (Telugu), and Rudhrama Devi (Telugu). One new Bollywood film opens in Chicago area theaters on October 16, 2015: the comedy sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. This is a huge surprise, considering that the 2011 original didn’t release in the US and the cast of the new film is made up of virtual unknowns. Distributors are counting on the familiarity of the title and a lack of competition to bring people to the theater. We’ll see if the gamble pays off.

PKP2 opens Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 16 min.

Jazbaa carries over for a second week at MovieMax, South Barrington 30, Cantera 17, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge.

MovieMax and the South Barrington 30 give a third week to both Singh Is Bliing and Talvar, which also carries over at the Cantera 17.

The Bollywood thriller Jazbaa (“Passion“) — starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Irrfan Khan — opens in Chicago area theaters on October 9, 2015.

Jazbaa opens on Friday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 10 min.

Singh Is Bliing carries over at all of the above theaters except the River East 21. Talvar gets at second week at MovieMax, Cantera 17, and South Barrington 30, which also holds over Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon.

Two new Bollywood movies hit Chicago area theaters on October 2, 2015. Singh Is Bliing — the sequel to 2008’s Singh Is Kinng — gets the wider release of the two.

Singh Is Bliing opens Friday at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville, and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 20 min.

The weekend’s other new release is the crime thriller Talvar, starring Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma.

Talvar opens on Friday at the South Barrington 30 and Cantera 17.

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon gets a second weekend at the Cantera 17 and South Barrington 30, which also holds over Katti Batti.

Meet the Patels carries over at the South Barrington 30 and expands to the Wilmette Theatre in Wilmette and Regal Lincolnshire Stadium 21 in Lincolnshire.

The comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (“Who Should I Love?“) opens in Chicago area theaters on September 25, 2015. The movie marks the Bollywood debut of TV comedian Kapil Sharma. Indian TV personalities are unreliable when it comes to international box office viability — I’m looking at you, Ayushmann Khurrana and Manish Paul — so releasing KKPK in North America is a risk.

KKPK opens on Friday at MovieMax Cinemas in Niles, AMC South Barrington 30 in South Barrington, and Regal Cantera Stadium 17 in Warrenville. It has a listed runtime of 2 hrs. 22 min.

Katti Batti carries over for a second week at all three of the above theaters, plus Regal Gardens Stadium 1-6 in Skokie and AMC Loews Woodridge 18 in Woodridge.
