I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with today’s premiere of the Netflix Original Hindi film Serious Men, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. No Indian titles were added on the first of the month, but it looks like there could be a bunch coming October 12. I also updated my list of Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime with dozens of Indian films and Pakistani dramas added in the last week, including the debut of the Telugu thriller Nishabdham, starring Madhavan and Anushka Shetty. I watched “Serious Men.” What a slow film. What a waste of time film. Dad knows his son is slow so he buys answers to tests and has his son memorize things to appear to be a genius. Dad has issues since he wants their lives to improve faster than is happening, thus the lies. Eventually the son gets caught with the lies. The dad has taught the kid to say “I can’t deal with primitive minds like yours” in order not to get caught if he doesn’t know something. Dad threatens a little girl who learns the son isn’t a genius. Seriously creepy there. Maybe the Dad has gone nuts at the end of the film? The subtitles seem to be designed to keep an English only speaker confused about what’s going on in the film.
Maybe the point of the film was to be “I can’t deal with primitive minds like yours.” and we all have minds too small to understand the film?
I prefer films that I can enjoy instead of ones that have an ending implying I was stupid for watching your film when the main character looks straight into the camera and “looks” at me and says “I can’t deal with primitive minds like yours.”
Yikes, that sounds really off-putting. 🙁
