Streaming Video News: October 22, 2017

I updated my list of Bollywood movies on Netflix with five new additions to the catalog. The Hindi films Aashayein, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Kajraare, Karzzzz, and Patiala House are all available for streaming. I liked Patiala House, thought Aashayein was decent, and did not care for Karzzzzzzzzz. For everything else new on Netflix — Bollywood or not — check Instant Watcher.

I should also point out a few exciting non-Hindi films recently added to Heera. Barely two months after their theatrical releases, the Bengali movie Dhananjoy and the Telugu films Arjun Reddy and Nene Raju Nene Mantri are all available for streaming on Heera. You can find my list of the hundreds of Hindi movies on Heera here.

I’m so happy to find your site! I recently saw a reference to Raja Hindustani, found the movie on YouTube and loved it, and now I’m making my way through all the Bollywood films subtitled in English that I can find online. I’ve already made my way through quite a few, including oldies like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, classics like K3G and DDLJ, and newer ones like Dhoom 3. Sometimes the films feel absurdly melodramatic compared with Western films and wow, they are long. But I appreciate the emotional sincerity and the commitment to entertaining the audience. And I’ve become a big fan of Aamir Khan who is a just a flat-out great actor.

Until I read your site it didn’t occur to me to look for first run Bollywood films in theaters but now I have a date to see Secret Superstar on a big screen, which will be a nice change from watching films on my laptop. So thanks for that!

Thanks for writing, Alisa! I’m so glad you like the site. This is a great time to be a Bollywood fan in the United States. In addition to YouTube and a number of streaming services — not to mention (potentially) DVDs at your local public library! — Hindi films are becoming more and more common in theaters, even outside of big cities. I’m glad you finally get to enjoy one on the big screen!
