New Trailer: February 6, 2014

The trailer for Yash Raj Films’ Bewakoofiyaan is out now. The romantic comedy — starring Sonam Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Rishi Kapoor — hits theaters on March 14. It looks sort of cute, but uninspired. [Update: I changed the video to one featuring English subtitles. I’m still not impressed.]

“Cute but uninspired.” I agree. Although, I have a feeling the Trailer is to blame for this. It seems very poorly edited. The ‘funny’ bits are lame and completely off kilter. I’m hoping it’s the trailer, because if the makers feel those are the best scenes… then… well, wow.

I love Khurrana, but this seems like a misstep.

This is my fear. Also, I’m getting tired of Bollywood romcoms advertising themselves as being full of “madness.” I like my romantic comedies to be full of “romance” and “comedy,” not “madness” or other forms of general craziness. Maybe it’s just a typical Indian expression that doesn’t have a direct counterpart in the U.S.

I feel like Bollywood tries to capture the ‘madness’ of the comedy or errors thing from Hollywood, or even classic Monty Python style movies… but they can’t quite get it right.

All these Hera Pheri type of movies do the hundreds of characters all converging on one storyline a la Guy Ritchie type of concepts, but it’s so forced that any semblance of good storytelling or characters get overwhelmed by that.

One amazing example of ‘crazy’ mad cap situational movie that reminded me of a Guy Ritchie type, was KAMINEY.
